Pokemon LeafGreen Player Spends 2.5 Years Beating the Game Using Only Green Shinies

A player recently accomplished a remarkable feat in Pokemon LeafGreen, completing the game with a team consisting entirely of green-colored Shiny Pokemon. Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen were significant releases in 2004 as the first remakes ever made in the Pokemon series. These updated versions of the original Kanto games introduced several new features, like the Sevii Islands and enhanced battle systems. Notably, they also brought Shiny Pokemon to the Kanto region, which weren’t available in the initial Pokemon Red and Blue games.

Shiny Pokémon are some of the most sought-after creatures in the entire series, first appearing in the second generation of games. These Pokémon have different colors and are incredibly rare – normally, there’s only about a 1 in 8,192 chance of finding one in the wild. Many Pokémon fans enjoy “Shiny hunting” after finishing the main game, trying to find the specific Shiny versions they want. Recently, a player of Pokémon LeafGreen completed the game with a remarkable team made up entirely of green-colored Shiny Pokémon.

Pokemon LeafGreen Player Beats the Game With Only Green Shinies

A Pokemon streamer named Estileto recently finished a playthrough of Pokemon LeafGreen using a remarkably unique team. They defeated the Elite Four with six Shiny Pokemon, all of which were green – Venusaur, Kabutops, Espeon, Dragonite, Hitmonlee, and Scizor. This impressive feat took two and a half years to achieve, and involved obtaining Pokemon not normally available in FireRed and LeafGreen. Notably, Estileto’s team included two Pokemon originally from the Johto region, which were likely obtained through trading with a third-generation Hoenn game.

Estileto’s impressive Pokemon collection probably involved many game resets, especially when hunting for Shiny Pokemon. In FireRed and LeafGreen, you can’t breed Pokemon until after beating the Elite Four, so getting a Shiny Bulbasaur likely required multiple resets. The team also features other rare finds: Hitmonlee appears only once in the game at the Saffron City Fighting Dojo. Dragonite is another difficult Pokemon to find in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, only appearing late in the game in Victory Road or as a prize in the Celadon City Game Corner.

Recently, Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen have become popular again due to celebrations for the Pokemon franchise’s anniversary. Game Freak and The Pokemon Company officially re-released these remakes of the original Kanto games on the Switch as part of the 30th anniversary Pokemon Day event. This is the first time a classic main-series Pokemon game has been available on the Switch, although other titles like Pokemon Stadium have been offered through Nintendo Switch Online.

As a huge Pokémon fan, I’m still buzzing from the anniversary livestream! Game Freak finally announced the next generation games – Pokémon Winds and Waves – and they’re coming in 2027! But that wasn’t all – they also showed off more of Pokémon Champions, which looks like a really cool competitive game. Plus, they’re adding Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness to the Nintendo Switch Online GameCube library, which is awesome! Even if you’re into the mobile games, there’s something to get excited about with special events planned for Pokémon GO, TCG Pocket, and Masters EX. Honestly, the 30th anniversary is shaping up to be incredible – Pokémon is really going all out for its celebrations!
