The Pokemon TCG Pocket game has received a significant update recently, introducing numerous changes including the Space-Time Smackdown expansion set with 207 new cards for collection. However, this update also brings an unwelcome change – it introduces trading to the game, which has upset fans. While the inclusion of the long-awaited feature should be positive news, the similarity to the Pokemon GO trading system is concerning, as it amplifies all its drawbacks in every conceivable manner.
In simpler terms, both Pokemon TCG Pocket and Pokemon GO allow for trading, but they do it differently. Similar to how trades work in Pokemon GO, you only need Stardust to trade there with some exceptions where almost every monster can be exchanged. On the other hand, Pokemon TCG Pocket uses Trade Hourglasses and Trade Tokens for trading, and even if you have enough resources, additional limitations might prevent you from getting the cards you desire. This unexpected complexity in trading has left some fans puzzled because it makes a seemingly straightforward process unnecessarily complicated.
Why Pokemon’s Trading Currencies and Limitations Can Be Seen as Bad
Fans of Pokemon TCG Pocket might find themselves puzzled by the freshly added trading feature, given its rather complex restrictions that aren’t particularly user-friendly. It’s hoped that DeNA will soon reconsider and modify this mechanism because, at present, there are aspects about it that make it less than appealing to utilize.
- Forcing people to use tokens to trade for cards of higher rarity means they have to dedicate time to obtaining the currency if they want to swap multiple cards, making it feel like a daunting process.
- Placing stamina on the trading feature means players can’t do it whenever they please, meaning they are required to wait to do multiple swaps, which could lead to some forgetting about certain exchanges.
- Making the card trade value limit 1 gold star means players who were looking to trade their extremely valuable cards for those of others will not be able to do so, preventing everyone from improving their collection.
Although the recent update in Pokemon TCG Pocket introduces some fantastic new cards, it’s unfortunate that those who wish to acquire them without investing resources on pack opening can’t trade for them directly. The current trading system within the game has areas that could benefit from improvement, as if these issues aren’t addressed and resolved, players may choose to bypass it altogether.
How Pokemon TCG Pocket Can Improve Its Trading Feature to Make It More Desirable to Use
One modification The Pokemon Company might consider for the trade feature is making all cards in the Pokemon TCG Pocket tradeable, eliminating the hassle of figuring out which ones can be traded. Additionally, they could reduce the cost of exchanging high-value items. Since Trade Tokens are required, it would be beneficial if the game significantly decreased the number of tokens needed to obtain rare cards (currently, needing 500 tokens for a card with a gold star value is quite pricey). If these changes were implemented, the trading feature might receive more positive feedback, even considering the daily use limit.
Initially, many Pokemon TCG Pocket enthusiasts anticipated a trading feature in 2025. However, the manner in which it was incorporated into the game might not have been what they envisioned. Whether the restrictions on trading will ultimately harm the game or if the developer adjusts the system to address criticisms remains to be seen.
