Rain World’s Watcher DLC: A Massive Expansion That Will Blow Your Mind!

In simpler terms, the popular game “Rain World” is about to receive a new DLC titled “The Watcher”, and it’s expected to be quite significant or substantial. The upcoming expansion for “Rain World” promises to be larger than the original game itself.

Slated for a launch on March 28, The Watcher DLC is gearing up to be the game’s most substantial expansion yet. Following closely on the heels of Rain World’s Downpour DLC, The Watcher promises to enrich the game with an array of fresh locations, creatures, and a novel play style. Players will find themselves assuming the role of the titular character, the Watcher (or Nightcat as fans recognize him). In an exclusive conversation with Game Rant, VIDEOCULT co-founder James Therrien provided some insight into the colossal scale of The Watcher DLC.

Rain World’s Watcher DLC Is Looking To Be Bigger Than The Original Game

The Scope of The Watcher DLC

Rainworld is renowned for creating exceptionally engaging environments, utilizing innovative approaches in artificial intelligence and creature animation. Even the most ordinary creatures in this game are packed with features, which makes Therrien’s claim that the upcoming DLC for the game will be “markedly expansive” compared to the main game quite impressive. Although Therrien doesn’t specify exactly how much additional playtime players can anticipate, he does hint at its size.

It’s challenging to gauge its playability until it’s in the hands of players, but size-wise, it’s noticeably larger than the initial Rain World. The influx of new creatures, artwork, and assets is truly awe-inspiring. As I delve into the audio, there are over 180 new music tracks and more than 500 sound effects waiting to be explored. In terms of additional content, it’s quite vast.

Initially, Therrien was recruited for the game titled “Rain World” as its composer. Given this context, discussing the upcoming expansion solely from an audio perspective is fitting. Although it’s challenging to pinpoint exactly how much larger fans might anticipate the next expansion of Rain World to be based on this comparison, there are grounds for comparison. The original Rain World boasted more than 140 music tracks, making the vague description of “significantly larger” plausible (provided that the rest of the DLC’s content scales proportionally with this example).

The Watcher Could Have Been Even Bigger

Therrien elaborates on the topic of how The Watcher magnifies the scope of Rain World. Specifically, he claims that the most significant hurdle faced when developing the DLC was the limitation in incorporating all their desired elements, suggesting that the extension could potentially have grown even larger.

Working on “The Watcher” was an absolute delight, though fitting all our concepts and material into it before a sensible deadline proved quite the challenge – and we managed to do so, more or less. Post-launch updates and some exciting revelations are expected when it finally debuts on consoles.

As a fervent admirer of The Watcher, I’m thrilled to see that the post-launch improvements are paving the way for the DLC to finally live up to the grand vision the developers initially had in mind.
