Red Dead Redemption 2: Every Companion Item Request (& Where To Find Them)

Man, I still can’t believe how good Red Dead Redemption 2 is, even after all this time. It’s been almost a decade since it came out, and people are still playing it. Rockstar really nailed everything with this game, but for me, the Van der Linde gang is the best part. You spend so much time with these characters – easily over 50 hours – hanging around camp, and they’re always coming to you with little problems. Those camp requests are kinda weird, though. They’re usually small tasks that don’t give you much in the way of rewards, but they do a great job of making you feel like part of the gang and building relationships with everyone. It’s more about the story and connection than anything else.

Similar to Stranger Missions, Camp Requests don’t always appear right away – they happen somewhat randomly. It’s easy to miss some, especially if you don’t fully utilize your camp. To help, we’ve listed all the Camp Requests in Red Dead Redemption 2, detailing when they become available and what you’ll earn as a reward. We’ve also included a quick overview table showing the essential information, like which chapter each request appears in, to make things easier.

Generally, you can only request companion items between 8 AM and 8 PM. This guide will point out any exceptions to that rule.

Quick Overview Of All RDR2’s Camp Companion Quests

I’m really excited to dive into each quest, and this section gives a quick rundown of the basics for all of them. If you’re like me and want to know when each camp request pops up without getting any story spoilers, this table is perfect – it tells you when things become available!

Should You Even Bother Doing Camp Requests In RDR2?

In a sprawling game like Red Dead Redemption 2, you’ll likely find yourself focusing on what you enjoy most and skipping other parts. That’s perfectly normal for open-world games – it’s okay to ignore optional content if it doesn’t enhance your experience.

Should you bother with camp requests in Red Dead Redemption 2? It’s a bit of both – not really necessary, but they aren’t a waste of time either. These quests add some nice detail to the game, but they’re completely optional. Trying to complete every single one can be frustrating because they appear randomly, and it can make the game feel like a chore. I suggest just playing the game as you normally would and completing camp requests when you happen across them. Don’t stress if you miss one!

That said, you should try to get at least 5…

Is There A Trophy Or Achievement For Completing Camp Item Requests?

The “Errand Boy” trophy is a bronze reward earned by completing camp requests. Luckily, you only need to finish 5 of them, meaning most players will unlock it simply by playing through Red Dead Redemption 2. Importantly, you don’t need to complete every single request to achieve a Platinum trophy.

Abigail

Five Dollars

Chapter 2
Reward

In Chapter 2, you can easily complete a small task by finding Abigail in her tent. She’s talking to Jack about his clothes, and if you listen in, you’ll have the option to give her five dollars to buy him a new outfit.

Abigail is unique in the game because she doesn’t offer players a reward for giving her a gift. However, the game recognizes this kindness by increasing your honor level. Plus, it’s a simple act – you don’t have to search far and wide for the item needed.

Jack

Penny Dreadful Comic Book

Chapter 2
Reward Chocolate Bar

During the “A Fisher of Men” mission, young Jack tells you he’s upset because he forgot a book back at your camp near Blackwater while you were out fishing.

You can find a replacement book in a few different places. One is located in the School House within the abandoned town of Pleasance, which is just north of the ‘O’ on the Lemoyne map. When Arthur returns the book, young Jack is thrilled and rewards him with a chocolate bar. This sidequest is well worth doing just for this heartwarming moment!

Jack

Thimble

Chapter 2
Reward A Picture

Jack asks Arthur for help with another problem, starting in Chapter 2. He’s upset because he lost his mother’s thimble and fears getting in trouble. After talking to Jack, the player can find a replacement thimble by searching the bodies of fallen enemies and other characters.

The slightly disturbing thimble might be traded to Jack for a heartfelt drawing – a piece of his artwork. Like other things Jack asks for, it’s one of the most charming requests in all of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Mary-Beth

Fountain Pen

Chapter 2
Reward Gold Wedding Ring

Many players will be aware that Mary-Beth often journals when she’s at camp. If you interrupt her in Chapter 2, she’ll mention wanting a fountain pen. You can find one yourself by going to Osman Grove, which is in Roanoke Ridge, just southeast of Emerald Station.

Mary gives Arthur a valuable gold ring as a thank you for finding a pen. These sweet, unexpected moments, alongside the game’s often brutal action, are what make this Rockstar’s most impressive release yet.

Javier

Oleander

Chapter 2
Reward Poisoned Knives

Sometimes, Javier can be found at the camp’s rectangular table, carefully applying poison to his knives. If Arthur speaks to him at that moment, Javier will request more oleander sage.

I love how you can find that special plant all over the place, like along the Riverbanks of Bayou Nwa. It’s so cool how Javier uses it to craft those poisoned knives, and then shares them with Arthur! Honestly, seeing those two stand together? They’re definitely some of the most memorable cowboys I’ve ever seen in a game.

Pearson

Naval Compass

Chapter 2
Reward Guarma Rum

Okay, so in Chapter 2, between 8 AM and 2 PM, you can play poker with the gang. While you’re playing, Pearson might mention he lost his old Navy compass. If you decide to help him find it, it’s actually a pretty chill mission – you can totally do it without getting into a fight, so I recommend leaving the bigger weapons at camp!

Players can find a replacement compass for Pearson at the boathouse near Braithwaite Manor. As a thank you, Pearson will share some of his special Guarma rum with Arthur.

Sean

Kentucky Bourbon

Chapter 2 or 3
Reward Firebombs

During the game, between noon and 6 PM, you can find Sean making firebombs at the camp, usually in chapters two or three. If you talk to him, he’ll offer to make some for Arthur, but only if Arthur can get him a bottle of bourbon first.

Getting Kentucky bourbon is a simple task – it’s sold in most stores and doesn’t require any force. You can even use the game’s photo mode to examine the bottles closely before purchasing one. As promised, Sean will then make a couple of firebombs for you in exchange for the bourbon.

Pearson

Rabbit

Chapter 2, 3, Or 4
Reward Scout Jacket

Players are having trouble completing Pearson’s second request. Between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM, find Pearson at the camp while he’s cooking and drinking beer. Talk to him, and he’ll ask you to bring him a dead rabbit.

Getting the ingredients for the request is much simpler than starting it, because you can find the animals almost anywhere on the map. It’s worth the effort – the cook will make a fantastic stew, and Arthur will receive a new scout jacket as a reward. Just be careful not to let the jacket catch fire!

Bill

Hair Pomade

Chapter 2, 3, Or 4
Reward High-velocity repeater/revolver rounds

Okay, so this is a super easy task you’ll run into – probably around chapters two, three, or four. Bill just randomly asks me to grab him some hair pomade! Honestly, I probably already had it in my satchel, because you find that stuff everywhere. But if you don’t, no big deal, just head to a general store and pick it up. It’s a really quick little thing.

There’s a bit of disagreement about the reward for completing this task. Some players say Arthur gets special, fast-firing repeater ammo, while others receive revolver ammo. Regardless, everyone gets powerful ammunition that can unlock one of the most compelling ‘bad guy’ storylines in gaming.

Charles

Moonshine

Chapter 2, 3, Or 4
Reward Flaming Arrows

Between chapters 2 and 4, if you talk to Charles while he’s making fire arrows, he’ll offer to craft some for Arthur if you can supply him with more moonshine. These flaming arrows are a really enjoyable – though somewhat chaotic – weapon, and they make for some of the most exciting gang fights in the game.

It’s surprisingly easy to find moonshine at shady shops. Once he gets it, Charles keeps his word and makes flaming arrows for his friend.

Charles

Oleander

Chapter 2, 3, Or 4
Reward Poisonous Arrows

Once Arthur finishes making moonshine, he finds Charles crafting poison arrows. If you want to make some yourself, you’ll need to collect oleander plants.

If you’ve already completed Javier’s request for Oleander, you’ll be familiar with where to find this poisonous plant – along the banks of Bayou Nwa. Helping Javier once again results in Charles crafting special arrows for Arthur, but this time, they’re tipped with poison. These arrows are ideal for those wanting to play as a bandit and explore different combat strategies against enemies.

Hosea

The Case Of The Shrew In The Fog

Chapter 2, 3, Or 4
Reward Predator Bait

Players start this quest by finding and picking up a book called “The Tale of The Deceitful German” near Hosea in camp. If Hosea catches Arthur reading it between 8 A.M. and 8 P.M., he’ll ask for a different book, “The Case of the Shrew In The Fog.” Arthur then needs to find this second book for him.

I stumbled upon something really cool while exploring! You can find predator bait at a house in Hagen Orchards – look for it on a coffee table, right under the ‘O’ in Bayou Nwa on the map. It’s a sweet moment – Hosea is so touched by something you do that he actually gives you the bait! Taking it hunting is amazing, seriously, it really lets you soak in that incredible open-world feeling while you’re tracking animals.

Dutch

Pipe

Chapter 2, 3, Or 4
Reward Set of Spurs

If you see Dutch smoking a cigar outside his tent, you can ask him about it. He’ll mention he actually prefers smoking pipes, and Arthur will then offer to find him one.

You can find the pipe a little northeast of the ‘W’ in West Elizabeth, inside a small shack called Vetter’s Echo. Be careful though – there’s a bear living there! Once Arthur delivers the pipe, Dutch rewards him with a new pair of spurs. This exchange doesn’t affect the game’s overall story or Dutch’s behavior, even though the game has different possible endings.

Susan

Herbs

Chapter 2, 3, Or 4
Reward Miraculous Tonic

Sometime during chapters two through four, Susan will ask Arthur for herbs to flavor Pearson’s stew. She’ll take any two of creeping thyme, oregano, or wild mint.

Near Citadel Rock, just outside Valentine, you can find some creeping thyme. Gathering herbs is a peaceful activity for Arthur, giving him time to think about life and the world, which really highlights the game’s strong character development. If you collect the thyme, you’ll get a powerful miracle tonic as a reward.

Lenny

Pocket Watch

Chapter 2, 3, Or 4
Reward Dynamite

One evening, between 8 P.M. and 3 A.M. while sitting around a campfire, Lenny shared a sad story about his father’s lost pocket watch. Arthur, however, could easily find a replacement – they’re often found in abandoned buildings, homes, or even on fallen enemies. A significant firefight is likely to turn one up. It would be a really meaningful gift for Lenny. As a thank you, Lenny gave Arthur some dynamite.

Tilly

Necklace

Chapter 3
Reward Two Health Cures

In Clemens Point, you can play dominoes with Tilly, who tells you she’s lost her necklace. Naturally, Arthur and you team up to find her a replacement. You can often find jewelry to take from places like gang hideouts, homes, and small cabins.

Because Tilly is a particularly decent person, even for a gang member, she shows her gratitude to Arthur by giving him two health tonics. If you experience visual glitches during this mission, try adjusting your computer’s graphics settings to improve performance.

Hosea

American Ginseng

Chapter 3
Reward Health Cure

Occasionally in Chapter 3, Hosea can be found at a table in camp making medicine. If you talk to him, he’ll mention he needs more American ginseng, and he offers to make some for Arthur as well.

The plant can be found just south of Cumberland Forest, near the train tracks. Using it, he can create a powerful healing item for players. Failing to find this plant is one of the game’s ways of discouraging players from skipping optional quests.

Molly

Pocket Mirror

Chapter 3
Reward Cigar

In chapter 3, a character named Molly will ask Arthur for help with her broken mirror. Players can find a replacement mirror at Martha’s Swain, a small house east of Three Sisters in Ambarino, right by the train tracks.

This small moment is one of the few times anyone treats the girl kindly during the campaign, so she’s genuinely happy. To show her thanks, she gives Arthur a cigar. Though brief, the scene is a perfect example of excellent cutscene design.

Kieran

Burdock Root

Chapter 3
Reward Horse Stimulant/Recipe for nutritious animal food

Between noon and 6 PM, you can find Kieran at Clemens Point taking care of a horse. After talking to him, you’ll learn the horses need burdock root. This plant grows on the western side of the plains, especially near rivers – you’ll need two pieces for the quest. Arthur can easily find it by searching around the area.

I’m loving how much Kieran cares about horses in the game! His reward isn’t something we get, it’s all about taking care of our horses. It’s a stimulant to keep them going, and a little guide on how to make a really good, healthy meal for them. Honestly, it’s just so cool – the game looks amazing while you’re riding along, feeding your horse and enjoying the scenery.

Sadie

Harmonica

Chapter 3 Or 4
Reward Gun Oil

During the “Further Questions of Female Suffrage” quest, Sadie will share that she used to play the harmonica. She’s lost her instrument, but you can buy her a new one at Granger’s Hoggery.

The spot is located just east of Flatneck Station and slightly north of Flat Iron Lake. Arthur finds some gun oil after searching, which is perfect for Sadie. It’s best to complete this quest quickly, as the reward helps maintain and protect all of Arthur’s guns for the rest of the game.

Charles

Eagle Feather

Chapter Epilogue Part 2
Reward Horse Revived

In the second part of the epilogue, Charles begins building the new barn by hammering nails. If you talk to him, he’ll mention the eagle feather he carries, and will ask you to find another one for him.

You can find eagles all over West Elizabeth, but the area around the Lower Montana River leading into the Aurora Basin is a particularly good place to spot them. If you do, Charles will give you a horse reviver as a reward. It’s a welcome, relaxing moment in what’s usually a very intense game.

Uncle

Home Remedy Ingredients

Chapter Post-Game
Reward Four Clothing Items

After you finish the main story, Uncle will ask you to gather ingredients for a homemade cure. You can buy the Kentucky bourbon and hair pomade at general stores, and peppermint from any stable.

As for the Milkweed, it grows around river banks in Lemoyne, for example, Dewberry Creek.

The final item you need is the skunk, which you can find by hunting in most areas—Tall Trees is the closest spot. This request is a bit more involved than others, requiring several items to finish, so the reward is quite good. You’ll receive four pieces of clothing for John: tornado boots, a classic frock coat, a drifter hat, and a frontier vest. If you’re looking to improve your combat abilities, consider downloading a weapon mod.
