A physical copy of Red Dead Redemption for the PS5 has appeared for pre-order on at least one website, hinting that a new version might be released. While everyone’s been focused on the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6, Rockstar Games has been working on other projects too. They’re still supporting the original Red Dead Redemption on older consoles, and now it looks like PS5 owners could be getting something special.
Following numerous leaks and speculation, Red Dead Redemption was released on current-generation consoles in December 2025. Although the game was already compatible with PS5 and Xbox Series X, this new version featured improved graphics and performance, and also brought it to the Switch 2. Given its immediate success, it’s not surprising that Rockstar Games has further plans for the title.
Red Dead Redemption PS5 Disc Version Spotted at Online Retailer
A listing for a physical copy of Red Dead Redemption on PS5 has appeared on the website of Spanish retailer Wakkap, leading fans to speculate about a new release. Currently, there’s no sign of an Xbox version, and the Switch 2 listing is only for a code-in-box edition. It’s uncertain whether Rockstar intends to release a physical copy only for PS5, or if Wakkap simply has stock for that console. Rockstar hasn’t officially announced a physical edition, so this could be a mistake, but retailers sometimes list products before they’re publicly revealed. Given the game’s strong digital sales on Xbox and PlayStation, a physical release would likely be a profitable move for Rockstar.
The physical disc version of Red Dead Redemption is listed to release on May 7th for €32.90, which is about $40. This is interesting because the digital version for PlayStation 5 costs $50. While physical copies usually aren’t cheaper than digital, it has happened before – the disc version of Oblivion Remastered launched with a $10 discount. Prices can vary depending on location, so it’s not certain if everyone will see this price, but Rockstar might be doing this to boost sales.
If reports are true and Red Dead Redemption is getting a physical copy for the PS5, that’s great news for players. While fewer people are buying physical games overall, the rate of decline has slowed, and many gamers still prefer owning a physical copy. Although digital downloads are now the standard, some players worry about the long-term availability of digital games or fully owning them. A physical release of the updated Red Dead Redemption would appeal to those players, whether they want to preserve the game or simply save space on their console.

Fans were thrilled to hear about a possible physical release of the first Red Dead Redemption, and many are hoping the same will happen for its sequel. There’s talk of an upgraded version of Red Dead Redemption 2 coming later this year, though Rockstar hasn’t officially announced it. Either way, Rockstar is busy with several projects, including the release of the original RDR and the long-awaited GTA 6, which is scheduled for November.
