Resident Evil Requiem Leak Hints at Mercenaries Mode

Players are diving back into Resident Evil Requiem again and again, uncovering hidden secrets and figuring out the best ways to play. While many are having fun with the game as it is, fans are also excited for more content. Capcom has announced story and mini-game DLC, and one player thinks they’ve found clues that the popular Mercenaries Mode might be added to Resident Evil Requiem soon.

The Mercenaries mode first appeared in the original Resident Evil 3: Nemesis back in 1999. It challenged players to defeat waves of zombies and other creatures against the clock. While the mode has changed a bit with each Resident Evil game, and often depends on the character you play as, it’s generally considered one of the series’ best side modes. So, it’s not surprising many fans expect to see it return in Resident Evil Requiem, and some early hints suggest Capcom may be planning just that.

Resident Evil Requiem Mercenaries Mode Leak

A data miner known as SYRKOV found hidden audio files within the Resident Evil Requiem game. One track features ticking clock sounds similar to those used in the game’s Mercenaries Mode. With a Resident Evil Requiem update planned for May, and game director Koshi Nakanishi hinting at a surprise mini-game, many players believe this update will include Mercenaries Mode. SYRKOV’s discovery of the clock ticking audio strongly suggests that Mercenaries Mode could be coming to the game soon.

I’m really hoping the rumors are true about Mercenaries Mode coming to Requiem in May! If it does, I’ve already started thinking about who we might get to play as. Obviously, I’d love to run around as Grace and Leon, but it would be so cool if they included some of the villains too. Resident Evil Village‘s Mercenaries Mode let us play as Lady Dimitrescu and Heisenberg, which was awesome, so I’m crossing my fingers we can play as characters like Zeno, Victor Gideon, or even The Girl in this new mode and just mow down hordes of enemies!

A popular request for Resident Evil Requiem is the inclusion of Tofu, the iconic block of bean curd. Originally created as a simple model for testing game hitboxes in the 1998 Resident Evil 2, Tofu became a fan favorite and even starred in a mini-game. Players can find references to Tofu while exploring the ruined Raccoon City Police Department in Requiem, and his history as a resilient character makes him a great fit for the Mercenaries mode.

It’s possible the extra audio files SYRKOV discovered were never used, or might be part of future story content or a small, unannounced game. However, given how popular Mercenaries mode has been in past Resident Evil games, many believe the surprise mini-game coming to Resident Evil Requiem in May could be a revival of that fan-favorite. Players eager for updates on Resident Evil Requiem and other survival horror games can stay tuned for official announcements.
