As a researcher who has been closely following the evolution of blockchain technology and its applications in financial services for years, I find Ripple’s latest regulatory milestone in the Middle East to be a significant step towards mainstream adoption. Having worked extensively with companies in the MENA region, I can attest to the region’s potential and openness towards innovative technologies like blockchain.
Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse recently commented on the company’s latest regulatory milestone in the Middle East.
Today, it was made public that our company has received approval from the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA), the regulatory body responsible for financial services in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).
As a crypto investor, I’m thrilled about the news that Ripple has been given the go-ahead by the DFSA. This means they can grow their payment services in the UAE, making history as the first blockchain-driven payment provider to reach this milestone.
In his social media post, Garlinghouse has stressed the importance of regulatory clarity, stating that this is exactly what businesses want. “The UAE understands that,” the Ripple boss added.
For some time now, Ripple has been quite influential in the MENA region, a part of the world known for its substantial riches. According to U.Today, this is because many financial institutions in this area have embraced Ripple’s offerings and the region’s crypto-friendly policies. In the past, Ripple established connections with various financial institutions located in countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Oman.
In November 2020, Ripple established a new office in Dubai, sparking speculation that the California-based firm might be considering relocating from the U.S.
Garlinghouse frequently commends the UAE as a leading example of countries that are exceptionally accommodating towards cryptocurrencies.
In simple terms, Reece Merrick from Ripple referred to the recent license as a significant turning point for their business activities in the Middle East region. Furthermore, Merrick mentioned that Ripple intends to help the UAE achieve its goal of becoming a frontrunner in embracing cryptocurrencies.
