Celebrations over XRP’s price surge, reaching a seven-year high of $2.9 and a market capitalization of $146.66 billion, are not without controversy, even in the dynamic world of cryptocurrency. As XRP experienced a nearly 400% increase since early November, doubts have also emerged about the sudden growth. The rapid addition of 79.54% to XRP’s valuation within weeks has sparked curiosity regarding Ripple‘s influence on the XRP ecosystem.

Recent allegations point towards the upper echelons of Ripple possibly selling vast amounts of XRP tokens, which were previously mined, to individual investors. Some contend that this action could potentially compromise market equality.

Critics have gone as far as to create and share humorous images portraying Ripple’s CEO Brad Garlinghouse dressed extravagantly in golden garments, adorned with necklaces, bracelets, and a shiny shirt. These depictions are meant to imply that he is making excessive profits.

David Schwartz, Ripple’s CTO, opted for an unusual approach to respond to the controversial claims, instead of the usual serious response. He decided to engage humorously by sharing a GIF from “Toy Story” featuring Buzz Lightyear’s phrase “Haters, haters everywhere”, which was originally said to Woody.

Besides owning a substantial portion of the overall token supply, Ripple keeps about 38.04 billion XRP in an escrow account. Every month, they progressively release a certain amount of these locked tokens, with the aim of creating consistent supply patterns and fostering a more stable market conditions.
