As the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) gives a polite nod to XRP ETFs, the rumblings of a potential conclusion to the Ripple Vs SEC case are growing louder. In an environment where the SEC is trying to create a crypto-friendly atmosphere (well, at least they say so), there’s a growing sense that the XRP lawsuit may finally come to an end. And to make things even more interesting, lawyer James Murphy, known to his fans as MetaLawMan, is predicting that the Ripple case could wrap up by May 2025. Maybe. Or maybe not. Who knows? But let’s hold our breath anyway.
Will XRP Lawsuit Settle Before May 2025?
The speculation train has officially left the station, with James Murphy throwing his hat into the ring. In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter, but who’s keeping track), MetaLawMan dropped the bombshell that the Ripple Vs SEC case could be wrapped up before April 16, 2025. You know, before Ripple submits its appellate brief on that very date. Pretty convenient, right? The case might be settled even before Ripple gets its chance to argue. What an age we live in!
But wait, there’s more. MetaLawMan pointed out that the complexity of the case—thanks to Judge Analisa Torres’ XRP judgment and the $125 million penalty—is what makes this whole ordeal a bit more “special” than your average crypto drama. In his words, “The Ripple situation is more complex than the Crypto Exchange cases, given the added complexity of the Torres judgment and the disposition of the escrow.” Sounds fun, doesn’t it? Not really, but you get the idea.
XRP ETF and Ripple Lawsuit: What to Know?
The crypto community has been buzzing lately—like a beehive after a few too many energy drinks—over the SEC acknowledging XRP ETF applications from various asset managers. These include Grayscale, CoinShares, 21Shares, Bitwise, and Canary Capital. No guarantees, of course, but the fact that this is happening at all feels like a small victory, especially when we consider the previous SEC administration under Gary Gensler. Remember him? No XRP ETF would have dared to see the light of day under his reign. MetaLawMan even quipped that Gensler turned the SEC into a “political weapon.” Not dramatic at all.
The acknowledgment of these XRP ETF applications is a sign that maybe, just maybe, the SEC is starting to shift gears and become a bit more reasonable. But hey, if they really want to restore their credibility, wrapping up the XRP lawsuit would be a pretty good place to start. Just saying. MetaLawMan also chimed in with his hopes for a settlement before May. Maybe he’s right—maybe this legal rollercoaster will finally come to a stop before we all lose our minds. It’s a thought.
How Coinbase Case Settlement Impacts Ripple Lawsuit?
The recent settlement of the Coinbase lawsuit has many wondering: Could this mean good things for the Ripple Vs SEC case? Well, maybe, but there’s still a whole lot of uncertainty in the air, like that feeling when you’re about to check your bank balance after a night out. Eleanor Terrett, a journalist from Fox Business, pointed out the SEC’s own words: “We are in uncharted territory right now.” And when the SEC says that, you know it’s a wild ride.
Why so uncertain? Well, unlike the Coinbase case, the XRP lawsuit has some serious complications. The $125 million penalty ordered by Judge Torres is a big thing hanging over everyone’s heads, and the judge will keep jurisdiction over the case until August 7, 2025, to make sure Ripple is paying attention. That’s a lot of time for the SEC to do some serious negotiating, possibly seeking a reduction or even a dismissal of the penalty. But hey, it’s not as easy as just waving a magic wand. They’ve got to get Judge Torres on board. And she’s not the type to just roll over.
