Ripple’s Madcap Moolah Move! 🤪

Right then, what ho! It appears that Ripple, a name that fairly trips off the tongue, has decided to fling a rather substantial sum – twenty-five million smackers, no less – of its own peculiar brand of folding stuff, something they call RLUSD, at the venerable institutions of DonorsChoose and Teach For America. One can only assume this is not an elaborate prank involving custard pies. 🥧

The news, which broke with the subtlety of a brass band at a funeral, was trumpeted via X, formerly Twitter, a platform whose name change continues to baffle yours truly. They’ve even penned a blog article, presumably filled with jolly good explanations. Ripple, you see, considers this initiative a shining example of how stablecoins can knit the global community together. One hopes they don’t expect us all to start knitting stablecoins ourselves. 🧶

During Teacher Appreciation Week, @Ripple announced a historic $25M $RLUSD donation to @DonorsChoose and Teach For America:

The truly spiffing thing about this charitable gesture is that it apparently already props up over 31,000 education wallahs, a good 21,000 teachers (poor devils), and lends a hand in more than 13,000 schools across the land. A hefty wad of the dosh will be used to bestow more than 280,000 student stipends. One imagines the recipients are doing a bit of a jig. 🕺

A great deal of to-do is being made about teaching financial skills to both students and teachers, in order to keep them in the running as we all hurtle towards a more digital existence. Ripple opines that the education system needs a bit of a tweak to address the possibilities and problems that lie ahead. One can’t help but agree; the world is becoming frightfully modern. 🤖

According to Ripple’s blog, these stablecoins, like RLUSD, are becoming rather crucial to digital finance, currently accounting for more than half of all on-chain transaction volume. Because they are, allegedly, fast, cheap, clear, and always accessible, cryptocurrencies are just the ticket for swiftly assisting those in need and improving financial inclusion. Though, personally, I’m still trying to figure out how to use them to buy a decent cup of tea. ☕

This decision, so Ripple claims, reflects their ambition to make crypto technology a valuable asset globally, demonstrating new ways for digital assets to make a splash beyond mere finance. One can only hope it doesn’t involve any actual splashes; I’ve just had my trousers pressed. 👖
