Risk of Rain 2: Seekers of the Storm DLC – All The Ways Seeker Changes Multiplayer Runs

Risk of Rain 2: Seekers of the Storm DLC - All The Ways Seeker Changes Multiplayer Runs

As a seasoned survivor of countless Risk of Rain 2 runs, I can confidently say that the latest addition to our roster, Seeker, has undeniably shaken up the game dynamics in the most delightful ways. With my years of gaming under my belt, I’ve seen it all – from the terror of Void Fields to the thrill of unlocking new characters. But Seeker, oh Seeker, you have managed to redefine the experience for me.

The newly introduced Seeker character is now accessible in the “Seekers of the Storm” DLC for Risk of Rain 2, joining Chef and another unlockable Survivor. Unlike Chef and the hidden third character, Seeker is immediately playable by default. This makes it simpler for players to jump into Risk of Rain 2 and experiment with Seeker in multiplayer mode right away. In a multiplayer setting, Seeker stands out as an exceptionally potent character, serving as the game’s most prominent example of a ‘support-type’ Survivor. Their Tranquility mechanics significantly enhance the overall gaming experience.

All that said, it would be irresponsible to talk about the Seekers of the Storm DLC without talking about the issues. At the time of writing this, the DLC has introduced a shockingly gigantic number of new bugs to the game, broken some core aspects of the game (such as Mithrix altogether), and is not being received by the fanbase very positively at all (and rightfully so). Still, that’s a discussion for another day. For now, let’s take a closer look at Seeker in particular and talk about how exactly they make multiplayer runs better overall.

6 Obviously, The Revive Mechanic

Seven Tranquility Stacks = One Big Revive

Firstly, let’s start by discussing the most noticeable feature: the Seeker’s capacity to resuscitate teammates. Prior to the release of the Seekers of the Storm DLC, the primary methods for players to revive during gameplay were limited to Dio’s Best Friend or Pluripotent Larva, which were relatively scarce and hard to find. Now, with the introduction of Seeker, players have a reliable way to bring their teammates back to life in the middle of a stage without much hassle.

To bring back fallen comrades, players need only use Seeker’s Meditate Special Ability seven times in a row successfully. Once this seventh usage is successful (also known as the seventh Tranquility stack), all deceased allies will be immediately revived during that specific stage, rather than having to wait until the next one. This feature allows those who were previously defeated to regain their strength more quickly and potentially catch up to other players’ power levels in each stage.

5 But Also The Saving Grace Mechanic

A Last-Ditch Heal Is Always Worth Having

However, Seeker’s Tranquility isn’t just useful for boosting Revive; its stacks are beneficial for teamwork in various ways. While they do enhance the damage of your other Seeker abilities, let me emphasize that the Saving Grace buff applied to all living enemies with the seventh Tranquility stack is equally valuable.

This buff, known as Seeker’s Tranquility, provides an emergency healing option to all players when their health drops critically. This healing is significant and often prevents what would otherwise be a fatal outcome. Additionally, this mechanic not only revives deceased players but also extends the lifespan of living ones by maintaining their health for a longer period on average.

4 Gives The Team Reliable Healing Options

Actually Pushes Players To Pay Attention To Each Other Mid-Run

Let’s be honest, it’s difficult as a Seeker player to run up to allies and try to heal them in the middle of all the chaos of a Risk of Rain 2 run. In fact, often times telling an ally to stand still while they’re healed will only put both the healer and the ally in more danger. So, it’s much better if allies instead keep an eye out for when the Seeker is in the lotus position mid-air and try to get into the AoE of Meditate before the Seeker finishes inputting all the prompts.

Once individuals start using this regularly, The Seeker proves to be an excellent multi-purpose healer. Although its healing power may become outdated once players acquire a few healing resources, it certainly simplifies the process of surviving early game with suboptimal gear, as The Seeker ensures everyone stays alive and progressing until better items are found.

3 Makes Void Fields More Approachable

Not That They Were All That Scary Otherwise

In Risk of Rain 2, clearing out Void Fields can be challenging due to the type of enemies encountered and their loot, but the payoff is usually substantial. To tackle Void Fields effectively, it’s essential to have a reliable method for healing. However, having a Seeker in your team significantly reduces this challenge, making venturing into Void Fields between stages 1 and 2 more manageable.

1. Consequently, since time doesn’t advance within the Void Fields, players can significantly progress their builds with minimal risk. However, if the incorrect enemies or items are chosen during the Void Cells phase of Void Fields, it’s often wiser to retreat and minimize losses rather than pushing forward and potentially ending the run prematurely.

2 Unlocked By Default, Giving Newer Players More Immediate Options

More Options By Default = More Content To Enjoy

In the additional content pack called “Seekers of the Storm” for Risk of Rain 2, the character Seeker is automatically accessible. This is advantageous in numerous ways, but most notably because it lets players utilize Seeker in a multiplayer game right away without needing to put much effort into supporting their team, since Seeker can be beneficial to the collective group from the get-go.

In addition, novice players diving into Risk of Rain 2 for the first time with the DLC Seekers of the Storm will benefit from having a larger selection of characters to choose from right off the bat, including Seeker and Chef. Luckily, Chef is relatively simple to unlock compared to other characters in the game, while the third new playable character is the most challenging to acquire overall.

1 Puts A Real Priority On Protecting One Specific Player

It’s a Real ‘Protect the VIP’ Scenario

In a multiplayer game of Risk of Rain 2, something remarkable about the Seeker character is that it encourages players to prioritize keeping one player alive over themselves. Typically, when other characters are chosen, players mostly focus on their own survival, but with the Seeker’s Meditate ability requiring them to remain still, they might need a bit of assistance from their teammates for protection.

It’s fortunate that safeguarding Seker isn’t as perilous as guarding other allies since, under dire circumstances, the guardian could lose their life but still, the Seeker has the power to resurrect them. This unique trait makes the player feel ‘distinctive’ when assuming this character and encourages a slightly closer collaboration than any other Survivor pair does, as it subtly rewards teamwork.
