As a seasoned crypto enthusiast with years of experience navigating the dynamic and unpredictable world of digital assets, I find Robinhood’s latest move intriguing yet somewhat perplexing. The launch of crypto transfers in Europe is undeniably a step forward in making self-custody and DeFi more accessible. However, the exclusion of certain tokens, including XRP, TON, FTM, JUP, TIA, among others, seems to be an unexpected twist.
On Tuesday, Robinhood Crypto announced the availability of cryptocurrency transfers in Europe. This new feature allows users to deposit and withdraw over 20 different digital currencies while also earning a return of 1% on their deposits. However, it’s important to note that not all tokens are supported; specifically, Ripple‘s XRP, zkSync (ZK), Wormhole (W), Arbitrum (ARB), Cosmos (ATOM), Polkadot (DOT), EOS, Fantom (FTM), Jupiter (JUP), Near Protocol (NEAR), Optimism (OP), Celestia (TIA), and Toncoin (TON) are currently not included in the platform.
Robinhood Rolls Out Crypto Transfers in Europe
Robinhood, the crypto platform, declared on October 1 that they will start offering cryptocurrency transfers for their European clients. This feature allows customers to deposit and withdraw over 20 different cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), Dogecoin (DOGE), Shiba Inu (SHIB), USD Coin (USDC), along with several others.
Johann Kerbrat, VP and GM of Robinhood Crypto, stated that by introducing cryptocurrency transfers in Europe, we’re streamlining the process of self-custody and making DeFi more user-friendly and accessible for our clients.
On this platform, users can also gain 1% on all their cryptocurrency deposits. This reward is distributed in the same digital currency they deposit, with a maximum limit set. Additionally, the platform has stated that its support for both deposits and withdrawals gives users increased control over their crypto assets. This feature aims to provide them with the secure, affordable, and dependable experience they are accustomed to when using Robinhood.
XRP, TON, FTM, JUP, TIA Among 13 Excludes From Service
Of particular importance is that Robinhood Europe will not support the transfer of 13 cryptocurrencies in their crypto transactions. These exclude XRP, zkSync (ZK), Wormhole (W), Arbitrum (ARB), Cosmos (ATOM), Polkadot (DOT), EOS, Fantom (FTM), Jupiter (JUP), Near Protocol (NEAR), Optimism (OP), Celestia (TIA), and Toncoin (TON).
After the legal disagreements between Ripple Labs and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) seem to be nearing resolution, Robinhood Europe made XRP available on its platform for European users in September. This move came as a shock within the cryptocurrency community, since these tokens were not included when it came to transferring crypto assets.
The community is yet to see XRP listed within U.S. borders, but the addition of Uniswap, Stellar, and Tezos to their platform for New York users has sparked talk that an XRP listing may follow soon.
