Summary

  • Esports Tokens in Rocket League will be removed on April 22, leaving Credits as the only currency for purchasing cosmetics.
  • Any Esports Tokens players have at that time will be converted into Credits, with an extra 10% bonus.
  • The Esports Shop in Rocket League will be rebranded as the RLCS Shop and offer new team decals and goal explosions.

As a gamer, I’ve got some exciting news to share about Rocket League! Psyonix has announced that they’re taking out the Esports Token currency from the game on April 22 this year. The reason behind this change is to make it easier for us players when purchasing new cosmetics in the game. If we happen to have any leftover Esports Tokens, they’ll be converted into Credits – the only currency that will be available in the game from then on. So, get ready fellow gamers! Let’s rock those new cosmetic items with our freshly earned Credits!

In the update version 1.61, launched on April 16, 2019, the Esports Shop was integrated into the popular game, Rocket League. This in-game marketplace enabled players to acquire items related to the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS). The merchandise included decals, wheels, and team banners from participating RLCS teams, a collaboration between Psyonix and Twitch. These Esports Shop items were strictly for aesthetic purposes, providing no competitive edge within Rocket League. The shop operated using its own currency, Esports Tokens, which could only be acquired by purchasing them with actual money.

Beginning on April 22nd, Esports Tokens within the game “Rocket League” will no longer be accessible for purchase. Any remaining Esports Tokens in player accounts will be converted into Credits, with a 10% bonus added and rounded up to the nearest 50 credits. However, it’s important to note that the conversion rate may differ by country. For instance, one Esports Token is equivalent to 0.9881 Credits in the US. On the same date, the Esports Shop will be rebranded as the RLCS Shop and will carry on showcasing “Rocket League’s” esports tournaments through new cosmetics.

Rocket League Will Convert All Esports Tokens Into Credits

As a gamer, I’m super excited about the upcoming changes in the RLCS Shop for Rocket League! Starting not too far from April 22, we’ll see universal decals representing the teams participating in the event. These will be the first-ever championship team-themed decals that can be applied to any Car Body, except for a few special ones based on third-party intellectual properties like the Spider-Man skin. Additionally, each team’s design will be reflected in their exclusive Takeover Goal Explosions available in the shop. Can’t wait to customize my ride with some championship flair!

Initially launched as a paid game back in 2015, Rocket League wasn’t entirely fresh, as Psyonix had previously introduced Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars for the PS3 in 2008. Yet, it didn’t gain significant popularity until 2020 following Epic Games’ acquisition of its developers. In September 2020, Rocket League transitioned to a free-to-play model, sparking a surge in players and transforming the game into the sensation we know today. A potential strategy for boosting Rocket Pass sales within the game involves eliminating a premium currency and merging it into Credits instead.
