Rockstar Hit With Legal Claim After Firings

Game developer Rockstar is being sued following recent layoffs. The Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain is pursuing legal action on behalf of affected employees.

Recently, the developers of GTA 6 let go of some employees after confidential company information was leaked. Those fired workers then protested outside Take-Two’s London office, arguing they were dismissed specifically to discourage union activity. Now, the Independent Workers of Great Britain (IWGB) union has filed a lawsuit against Rockstar Games regarding these firings.

Rockstar Hit With Legal Claim Due to Alleged Union Busting

The Independent Workers of Great Britain (IWGB) union is representing former Rockstar Games employees who were recently fired. The IWGB claims these dismissals were a direct result of the employees’ union activity and constitute unlawful victimisation and collective dismissal. According to the IWGB, Rockstar has refused to discuss the matter or negotiate a resolution, and has continued to fire union members in what they consider an unacceptable and illegal manner.

IWGB has officially started legal proceedings against Rockstar Games on behalf of its members. According to IWGB President Alex Marshall, they believe Rockstar is deliberately trying to suppress union activity and they are prepared to vigorously defend their members in court with the help of their legal team.

The statement emphasized that companies like Rockstar need to recognize that private online spaces used by unions, such as Discord servers, are legally protected, and company contracts can’t override UK law. Marshall finished by saying this case should serve as a warning to all employers – not just in the games industry – who believe they can unfairly target workers who are organizing; they won’t succeed in intimidating us.

The recent delay of Grand Theft Auto 6 isn’t because of employee layoffs or information leaks. This delay might also affect the release of other games like the Halo Remake, Gears E-Day, and the next Call of Duty title.
