  • Even rarer fruits, like Ame Ame no Mi candy syrup Logia, Tama Tama no Mi egg Zoan, and Susu Susu no Mi soot Logia, challenge norms.

As a seasoned One Piece fanatic with over two decades of sailing through the Grand Line under my belt, I must say that the Devil Fruits in this series are nothing short of extraordinary! Each one has its unique quirks and abilities, leaving us fans constantly amazed and guessing.

As a dedicated One Piece gamer, I’ve noticed that the mystical Devil Fruits usually fall into three distinct categories. The Zoan category grants me the power to transform into various animals or even legendary creatures. The Logia category bestows upon me the ability to manipulate an element, such as fire or water. Lastly, the Paramecia category offers a wide range of unique powers, from creating useful items to altering reality itself. Once I consume a Devil Fruit, I gain these extraordinary abilities, but I also forfeit my natural swimming capabilities forever.

Many Devil Fruits can’t be easily pigeonholed into just three categories due to their unique properties and the creative ways users utilize them. Here are some Devil Fruits that challenge or break the conventional rules we usually associate with them.

5 Soru Soru no Mi

User: Charlotte Linlin

Rule-Breaking Devil Fruits In One Piece
  • Crew: Big Mom Pirates
  • Debut: Episode 571

Previously being an Emperor, it’s fitting that Charlotte Linlin would possess a formidable Devil Fruit ability. Known as the “Model Silhouette-Model Zoan,” this fruit allows her to manipulate the lives of those who fear her, bending time and potentially shortening their lifespan. Given her imposing, almost indestructible physique and a hunger that has been with her since her youth, Linlin has always instilled terror in those around her. There are strong suggestions that she obtained her powers by consuming the Devil Fruit of its previous owner, a cunning human trafficker who sought to exploit and sell her to the Marines under false pretenses.

In the territory of Paramecia, where her unique Devil Fruit resides, Linlin’s powers sometimes resemble those of Logia. Her most distinctive ability is the transferring of souls, including her own, into inanimate objects. These soul-imbued items transform into homies, with those imbued by her own soul being particularly potent. Some of Linlin’s homies, like Prometheus, a sun homie, and Hera, a thundercloud homie, grant her limited command over fire and electricity elements. However, due to their semi-sentient characteristics, these homies offer control in a more indirect manner. Notably, Nami managed to seize Zeus, a thundercloud homie that once belonged to Linlin.

4 Ame Ame no Mi

User: Gasparde

Rule-Breaking Devil Fruits In One Piece
  • Crew: Gasparde Pirates
  • Debut: One Piece The Movie: Dead End Adventure

The peculiar attributes of Gasparde’s Ame Ame no Mi, a Devil Fruit introduced long before Whole Cake Island, can be somewhat explained. It is unusual that a candy-focused Devil Fruit would appear in the series so early on, but this is just one aspect of its peculiarity. This particular Devil Fruit belongs to the Logia class, which are typically derived from elements or naturally occurring substances. However, Gasparde can manipulate candy syrup as if it were an element. While this might seem odd, other Logia abilities, like darkness or soot, aren’t strictly natural elements either.

1. Gasparde’s Devil Fruit stands out for its ability to manipulate elements in both solid and semi-liquid states. Similar to other food-producing Devil Fruits, such as the Kuki Kuki no Mi, it has an unpleasant taste. Furthermore, this fruit shares a weakness with other food-generating fruits, being vulnerable to flour. Interestingly, Charlotte Katakuri was initially intended to have a Logia fruit, the Kona Kona no Mi, which would enable him to control and transform into flour. Some assume that his role as Flour Minister is either a nod or leftover idea from this concept.

3 Tama Tama no Mi

User: Baron Tamago

Rule-Breaking Devil Fruits In One Piece
  • Crew: Big Mom Pirates
  • Debut: Episode 570

As a gamer, I’d rephrase that as: “I, as the user of the Tama Tama no Mi, can transform my body into an egg’s composition, just like Tamago from the Big Mom Pirates did. This unique ability is categorized as Paramecia, despite eggs not being animals or elements. In this special case, Tamago transformed into Viscount Hiyoko, a chick-like character, when his egg-shell was cracked. When Hiyoko gets severely damaged, he transforms into Count Niwatori, a rooster-man and the most powerful form of this fruit. However, when Hiyoko is brutally injured, he reverts back to Tamago.”

By incorporating more characteristics that are typically found in animals, this fruit fits more comfortably within the realm of Zoan types. However, it’s not entirely clear what a Zoan like Tamago can do, such as whether he can ever transform back into a regular form. His egg shape seems to be his primary form instead.

2 Susu Susu no Mi

User: Karasu

Rule-Breaking Devil Fruits In One Piece
  • Crew: Revolutionary Army
  • Debut: Episode 510

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but marvel at the persistent presence of Karasu in the storyline following the timeskip. Over the past decade, he’s made occasional appearances, yet it feels like just yesterday when we saw him materialize in the flesh. This longevity is attributed to his unique ability derived from the Murder of Crows Devil Fruit that he wields.

Initially, it was thought to be a Zoan-type Devil Fruit because of its animal-like appearance. However, this assumption is puzzling since regular Zoans transform their users into a single animal, not a group. Eventually, it was identified as a Logia, the Susu Susu no Mi, which enables transformation into soot. Interestingly, these crows that Karasu uses are derived from impure carbon matter. This clarifies some inconsistencies, but the confusion is reasonable given the prolonged absence of any detailed explanation regarding these crows.

1 Gomu Gomu no Mi

User: Monkey D. Luffy

Rule-Breaking Devil Fruits In One Piece
  • Crew: Straw Hat Pirates
  • Debut: Episode 1

For years, the true identity of the Gomu Gomu no Mi was shrouded in mystery, making it seem like just another common Paramecia Devil Fruit. However, little did the World Government know that this very fruit would end up in the hands of the Red Hair Pirates and be consumed by Monkey D. Luffy. This peculiar fruit transformed Luffy into a human made of rubber, giving him an elastic body. Through rigorous training, even when he’s not actively using its powers, this Devil Fruit has made Luffy an incredibly formidable fighter.

Initially hidden, the truth about the Gomu Gomu no Mi was eventually unveiled to be none other than the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. Contrary to what was thought, this “Paramecia” type Devil Fruit was actually a Mythical Zoan, the scarcest form of the fruit, granting its bearer the ability to transform into the Sun God, Nika, and wield his colossal power. Despite its true identity, it appears that this fruit suits its courageous and eternally hopeful user perfectly.
