Gamers are eagerly anticipating the next God of War game, and a new rumor suggests it might be a significant departure from the previous titles. The rumor claims the next installment could explore multiple mythologies and feature two playable characters. With Ragnarok concluding the Norse saga, fans have been speculating about the future of the series, and this news offers some exciting potential directions.
We’ve been hearing more and more about the next God of War game lately. Todd Henderson from Insider Gaming recently mentioned on their podcast that an announcement could come as early as this month. While big rumors like these should be viewed with some skepticism, the growing buzz is definitely getting God of War fans excited for news from Santa Monica Studio. If Henderson is right, it will be interesting to see how accurate these recent rumors turn out to be.
God of War Rumors Claim That the Next Game Will Feature Two Protagonists, Multiple Mythologies, and a Strange Companion
A rumor circulating online, originally from a Reddit comment that has since been removed, suggests that the next God of War game will feature Faye and Tyr as the main characters. While there’s been previous speculation about Faye taking the lead, the inclusion of Tyr as a second protagonist is unexpected. The God of War series has previously used a dual-protagonist structure with Kratos and Atreus, but focusing on Faye and Tyr could offer a fresh dynamic. Adding to the mystery, reports also mention a “gelatinous cube” that will accompany players, leaving fans with even more to wonder about.
Another big topic fans are discussing is the possibility of mythologies beyond Greek and Norse appearing in the next game. For years, people have speculated about gods from other cultures being included, with many hoping for a God of War game set in Egypt. However, a recent leak suggests the game will actually explore Japanese and Mayan mythology instead.
A floating sword that is reportedly Merlin was also mentioned in the leaks.
However, this doesn’t completely rule out the possibility of Egyptian influences. In the free Valhalla DLC for God of War Ragnarok, Kratos battles Tyr, and Tyr uses weapons from various cultures during their fights – including a Japanese katana, a Mesoamerican macuahuitl, and an Egyptian khopesh. While the katana and macuahuitl match what a recent leaker claimed, it’s unclear if these weapons are simply a nod to existing fan theories. If these were intentional clues added to the Valhalla expansion, then Egyptian mythology could still be relevant to the game’s story.
