In 2024, a remastered version of Until Dawn came out on PS5. While the original game was made by Supermassive Games, this version was developed by Ballistic Moon. The remake largely followed the same story and featured the same characters, with a few added scenes to expand on the plot. This sparked rumors about a potential sequel, but unfortunately, PlayStation shut down Ballistic Moon in March 2026.

A now-deleted Reddit post revealed details about a possible sequel to the game Until Dawn. According to the post, the new game will be a PlayStation exclusive, fitting with recent reports that Sony is focusing less on releasing games for PC. While the developer wasn’t named, the post claims the team includes several people who previously worked at Supermassive Games. The rumor also suggests Until Dawn 2 will utilize the PlayStation DualSense controller’s features in unique ways, like blowing into the microphone to simulate cleaning dust off an object in the game.

Although the original post was taken down, another Reddit user, lululemon_fan091, saved it and looked into the claims, potentially figuring out which team is working on the project. PlayStation bought Firesprite in 2021, around the time development of a new Until Dawn sequel seems to have started. Firesprite has several former employees of Supermassive Games, the studio behind the original, and is currently developing a game codenamed “Heartbreak.” Previous reports suggest “Heartbreak” is a horror game based on an existing PlayStation franchise, which aligns with the possibility of a new Until Dawn title.
Fans hoping for a new Until Dawn game should remember that all current information is based on educated guesses, and nothing is confirmed until PlayStation officially announces something. However, there’s good reason to believe a new game is in development. PlayStation has shown a strong commitment to the series with the 2024 remake and the 2025 film adaptation. Given the recent success of horror games like Resident Evil Requiem, it’s logical for PlayStation to further invest in a franchise they completely own.

Although the studio no longer works on the Until Dawn series, they continue to create interactive horror games with a similar style. The Quarry was designed to be like a follow-up to Until Dawn and was generally well-received. Their next game, Directive 8020, comes out on May 12th. While Until Dawn and The Quarry drew inspiration from classic slasher films, Directive 8020 appears to be influenced by sci-fi horror movies like Alien and Event Horizon.
