In the game “RuneScape: Dragonwilds,” the treacherous lands of Ashenfall are teeming with numerous hidden missions. However, if players adhere to the primary questline, “Dragon Slayer,” things could become challenging and it might be difficult to navigate as there’s no precise quest marker; instead, you should focus on locating each step within a general area.
In order to simplify things for players, this guide gathers all the undisclosed details the game fails to provide, such as exact locations for quest items, directions, and essential places to explore. To kick things off, let’s walk through initiating the main storyline of “RuneScape: Dragonwilds“.
How To Start Dragon Slayer In RuneScape: Dragonwilds
To embark on this journey, adventurers must make their way to the Bramblemead Valley and search for a tower-like ruin where they’ll find an elderly sage. This wise figure will share vital information about the menacing dragon, Velgar, who has been causing trouble since the players first arrived in the valley. However, before they can confront Velgar, they must construct a shelter as their first priority.
Setting up a basic layout with some structures and walls may suffice initially, but it’s advisable for players to utilize this area as their operational hub. Frequent returns will be necessary, and once teleportation is unlocked, navigation will become effortless. Moreover, the zone lacks High Tier enemy raids, which can be quite a nuisance. Goblins are the only ones who may attack the player here, so the first objective should ideally be accomplished within this area to simplify matters.
As a gamer, I’ll need to gear up next with some essential tools: A Crafting Station, Cooking Pot, and I’ve got to track down some deer using a bow. To make the bow, I first need to craft a Spinning Wheel and some Thread. Once I’ve got my bow and arrows ready, it’s time to get the Old Wise Man some Antlers to cast his tracking spell. Deer are abundant in Bramblemead Valley and Temple Woods, so snagging a few Antlers won’t be too tough.
Go back to the Wise Old Man now to hand over the Antlers. He will inform you that the next phase of this quest involves locating Cathan, a fellow adventurer who chose to confront Velgar on his own during the expedition. To initiate this part, make your way to the central region of Bramblemead Valley. However, be wary as the valley is teeming with Goblin Bruisers, Archers, and Warriors.
1) Climb up to the highest point of the castle where you can find a special item called a Lore Object, easily recognizable by its blue glow. Upon reading it, the message inside reads: “The air is heavy with fear. Velgar approaches the Fortress.” Following this, the dragon will land on the Fortress’s gate. In such a situation, players should quickly flee to safety.
How To Find The Swamp Vault & Cathan’s Trail
Following the dragon encounter, players will observe that their quest indicator directs them towards a region up north. Their objective is to retrace their steps back to base, restock supplies, and ready themselves for an extensive journey across the Whispering Swamp. To proceed with this mission, they must locate the Dragonkin Vault: a secret stash concealed deep within the swamp, specifically the eastern middle section of the map. The vault is identified by a luminous blue door, which opens to an ancient dungeon left behind by the former rulers of these lands.
Journey through the marshland, but beware of goblin archers and colossal, pesky Rat-Rotten creatures that may inflict an irritating poison ailment on you. Adventurers might also attempt brewing the Antidote Potion and Fortifying Snacks using materials found within the Swamp.
After discovering the Vault, players should step inside and brace themselves for a challenging battle. Inside the vault, they will encounter Vault Guardians, Sentinels, and even an Archon. Navigate through the hallways littered with traps until you reach a secret room on the northeastern side. A dying Goblin is there; speak to him to continue following Cathan’s trail.
On the other side of the corridor, you’ll find a concealed room holding the secret for crafting the Anti-Dragon Shield. Remember to grab it prior to chatting with the Goblin Non-Player Character (NPC).
How To Find Cathan In RuneScape: Dragonwilds
As a devoted fan, I found myself in the midst of an intriguing turn of events. Cathan, our cunning hero, deceived the goblins, leading to their downfall. Now, he’s venturing towards the treacherous expanse known as the Fractured Plains, or Gornfell. It’s high time for us to make a beeline back to base, stock up on supplies, craft Tier 2 equipment, brew countless potions, and gather materials to construct a Lodestone. This magical artifact will serve as our teleportation key, should we meet an untimely end and need to retrace our steps for loot recovery.
The region lying above the Murmuring Marshes is known as Fractured Plains, and to traverse this marshy expanse, players must navigate through its western sector initially. Upon reaching this new territory, it’s advisable for them to find a secure location to set their Lodestone, ensuring easy teleportation later. Keeping an eye on the goblin trail ahead, players might encounter pesky wolves and will likely encounter their first Garou foes – these are robust humanoids resembling wolves with quite a punch.
The area you should focus your search is right at the Obelisk smack dab in the heart of the Fractured Plains. Be sure to tread cautiously, as Garou, Terrorbirds, Wolves, and Dire Wolves are known to roam the vicinity.
Cathan lies on the other side of the bridge connecting to the Obelisk/Tower, but reaching it requires battling a formidable foe – the Garou Thane. This colossal adversary wields an imposing shield that deflects attacks, so players must find a way to break through his defense in order to inflict damage on him.
After vanquishing him, players may then engage with the Ghost of Cathan, who is resting near the Obelisk at the other side of the bridge.
A wise strategy to overcome Garou Thane is to fire arrows at him from a secure distance, as it’s risky to get close because he can eliminate players with just one mighty swing of his axe. If luck favors them, they may find the recipe for Thane’s Authority, the strongest battle axe in the game.
How To Craft Challenge Horn
Following a conversation with Cathan’s Spirit, gamers are now ready for their ultimate mission before engaging Velgar atop the Tower in the Fractured Plains. However, to accomplish this, they must first create the Challenge Horn, an essential Quest Item that will instigate Velgar to fight them head-on.
Before proceeding to make the Horn, players should first elevate their Tier Level to 4. This requirement means they’ll need to acquire an Iron Pickaxe and an Iron Logging Axe. Then, they should start farming a significant amount of materials, with Iron Ore being the starting point from the Stormtouched Highlands.
Head over there, gather iron ore while staying vigilant against threats such as Garou, Dire Wolves, and particularly harmful Shocking Plants and Garou Berserkers. Once you’ve collected enough Iron Ore to manufacture the Iron Pickaxe and Iron Logging Axe, you’ll be ready to secure the two unique resources necessary for crafting the Challenge Horn, and then confront Velgar.
How To Get Bloodwood Sap
To acquire Bloodwood Sap, players must journey to the Bloodblight Swamp region, keeping in mind that they’ll need Antipoison Potions for their trip; they will likely require multiple potions to navigate through the swamp safely. The Bloodwood Tree is found in the southeastern part of the map, nestled within a fortress guarded by Tier 3 Garou forces: Berserkers, Archers, Druids, and formidable Thanes.
When players reach the peak of the fortress and find the massive twisted tree with peculiar growths, they should chop it down with the Iron Logging Axe to obtain Bloodwood Sap. At present, this is the sole location for gathering this component, so don’t forget to maximize your collection by casting the Axtral Projection Spell from Woodcutting on it.
How To Get Dragon Tooth
In the treacherous area known as Ashenfall’s Stormtouched Highlands, you can extract Dragon Tooth with an Iron Pickaxe. Keep in mind that this region is rife with danger. To ensure your safety, stock up on potions, food, and a Lodestone Teleporter for quick escapes. Additionally, it’s recommended to equip at least a Tier 4 weapon and basic Tier 4 armor before venturing into the Highlands.
First, make your way to the heart of the Stormtouched Highlands, following the trail of dragon remains until you reach the location marked on the picture provided above. Once there, retrieve the Pickaxe and excavate the Dragon Tooth from the lower jaw of the deceased creature.
How To Get Bronze Bars
As a keen enthusiast, I’d like to share some fascinating insights about the process of creating Bronze Bars. You see, I discovered that by combining Tin Ore and Copper Ore through smelting, I can create these wonderful Bronze Bars. These precious ores can be found in various places across the Fractured Plains, often nestled among the walls, scattered around the mountains, and hidden almost everywhere!
To construct the Challenge Horn, players will require a total of 5 Bronze Bars. Since each Bronze Bar is made from 3 Tin Ores and 3 Copper Ores combined in the Smelter, they will essentially need 15 Tin Ores and 15 Copper Ores. Once gathered, players can employ the Smithing Anvil to fabricate the Horn, preparing themselves for the fight of their lives.
How To Summon And Beat Velgar In RuneScape: Dragonwilds
After completing the Challenge Horn, head towards the towering obelisk atop the Fractured Plains, which is known as Velgar’s High. Locate the entrance through the large door and ascend the structure to reach the pedestal where you can place the horn. To initiate the fight with Velgar, pick the initial option for calling him out.
Velgar has three different attacks players should be aware of:
- Ground Slam/Spikes: The dragon slams the ground in front of it with its claw, crushing players who are not covered using Wind Shield and stunning them. Then, spikes sprout out of the ground and track the nearest players, striking twice and slowing them down. In each phase, after Velgar takes flight and returns, the Spikes grow in number.
- Poison Breath: Velgar uses his poison breath to cause severe damage and poison the players. If they are buffed by the effects of Antipoison Potion and Anti-Poison Food, the damage will be minimal, and they will avoid the DoT effect.
- Poison Meteors: Velgar takes flight and starts to summon poison meteors that rain from the sky. Dodging them and the puddles they create will minimize or negate the damage.
After overcoming this fearsome creature, players are advised to go back to the Elder Sage for their well-deserved compensation: the Book of The Dragon Slayer, conferring 500 EXP for Ranged, Magic, and Combat abilities, as well as the blueprint for the Dragonblight Shield. This item can be fabricated using an Anti-Dragon shield combined with the Dragon Visage (both items obtainable by presenting Valgar’s head to the Elder Sage).
Here it is! The players have conquered the final mission in “RuneScape: Dragonwilds”. However, there’s still a plethora of hidden gems waiting to be discovered, and developers are already gearing up to add fresh content to this thrilling survival game.
