Commencing this month, some ChatGPT Plus users will gradually receive access to OpenAI’s innovative voice chatbot, powered by the GPT-4o model. By autumn of 2024, all ChatGPT Plus subscribers will have the opportunity to utilize this feature.

Initially, the voice feature couldn’t be utilized because of safety concerns. Originally intended for release in May, the product was postponed to strengthen its safety features, allowing it to detect and reject inappropriate content. Additionally, OpenAI has expanded its ability to handle multiple user queries simultaneously in real time.

To ensure safety and ethical considerations, OpenAI enlisted over 100 external testers from 29 countries who collectively speak 45 languages for a round of tests. Their role was to evaluate the model’s ability to handle numerous inputs without compromising user safety. In addition, the model has been trained to utilize only four pre-defined voices, which were jointly developed by OpenAI and voice talents. This means that the model is unable to produce any other voices on its own.

As a crypto investor, I’ve noticed that the controversial AI model known as ‘Sky,’ which was under fire for allegedly mimicking Scarlett Johansson, has been removed from service. This decision seems to be a response to both public and legal pressure. In an official communique, Lindsay McCallum from OpenAI clarified that their new model will steer clear of imitating people or personalities, and will ensure that only voices registered on the model are generated.
