Satoshi-Era Bitcoin Address Activated After More Than 13 Years

As an analyst with over two decades of experience in the financial industry, I must admit that the recent activation of Bitcoin wallets dating back to 2011 is a fascinating development. With my firsthand experience of witnessing the dot-com bubble and bust, I can’t help but draw parallels between these long-dormant digital assets and the forgotten domain names of yesteryears.

A Bitcoin wallet that dates back all the way back to 2011 was recently activated, according to data provided by Whale Alert.

13 years ago, the wallet that had been dormant came back to function, revealing a balance of 23 Bitcoins, currently equivalent to approximately $1.35 million.

A slew of long-dormant Bitcoin wallets have been activated throughout this month.

11 years and four days ago, an address holding 100 Bitcoins (approximately $5.94 million at the time of the recent transaction) became active again. In 2013, this same address held a value of just $14,202 in Bitcoin.

11 and a half years later, on a Monday, an unused Bitcoin wallet containing approximately 25 Bitcoins, which is equivalent to around $1.58 million, became active again after being dormant.

wallets dating back to 2011, when Satoshi Nakamoto vanished, are relatively scarce. Other than the latest activation, only one such transaction took place in August, specifically on August 25th. This dormant address held approximately 64 Bitcoin, equivalent to around $4.14 million at that time.

Known as the enigmatic inventor of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto, reportedly sent his last email on April 26, 2011. In one of his closing communications, Nakamoto mentioned that he had shifted focus onto other projects, yet expressed confidence that Bitcoin was being well-managed. In his final correspondence to software developer Gavin Andresen, Nakamoto made clear that he wished to avoid being seen as a shadowy figure, instead emphasizing the open-source aspect of Bitcoin.

According to U.Today’s report, an address used for Bitcoin mining back in 2010, during the days of CPU mining, became active again in late June after a long period of 14 years without any activity. Activating such addresses is quite unusual.
