Shytoshi Kusama Supposedly Caught on Video At IVS2024 in Japan But There’s Catch

As an analyst with a background in cryptocurrency and experience following the Shiba Inu (SHIB) project closely, I find the recent revelation of “Shytoshi Kusama’s” identity at the IVS 2024 event intriguing but also raises some concerns.

The enigmatic head of the Shiba Inu project, known on social media as Shytoshi Kusama, has for the first time unveiled his true identity to the general public. He was recently captured on film at the prominent annual Web3 entrepreneurship conference in Japan – IVS 2024.

Yet, it’s important to note that identifying the true SHIB leader is uncertain due to the use of two masks concealing his face, making verification difficult.

Mysterious Shytoshi Kusama appears in SHIB booth

A Japanese Shib Inu community member identified as @kuro_9696_9696 has disseminated a video from the recent event in Japan. The clip shows an individual dressed in black attire, wearing two masks, and a hood, engaging in conversation with attendees of IVS 2024 who were exploring the Shib Inu booth at this gathering.

The man dons an outfit resembling a Batman costume, coupled with a mask bearing a strong likeness to a plague doctor’s mask. This mask conceals his upper face, while another mask underneath entirely obscures his features, leaving only eyeholes for him to see through.

“Everyone, this is Shytoshi, the leader of SHIB! Wow, amazing!! 🔥🔥🔥— KURO🐾SHIBARMY JPN🇯🇵 (@kuro_9696_9696) July 5, 2024

This week, Kusama announced his initial public engagement at IVS 2024, which will take place on Thursday. In a tweet, he invited members of the SHIB community to join him for a “meet and greet,” scheduled around noon local time.

Look forward to connecting with you at the IVS\_Official Shiba Inu both in Kyoto tomorrow around noon for my inaugural meet-and-greet session! I’m thrilled to interact with all of you #shibarmy members. @Shibtoken @sheerazhasan @treatsforShib @kaaldhairya @LucieSHIB @shibarium_— Shytoshi Kusama™ (@ShytoshiKusama) July 4, 2024

Shytoshi Kusama remains pseudonymous

The SHIB project’s anonymous leader, who succeeded Ryoshi in 2021, has kept his true identity and appearance hidden from the public. He later disclosed that “Shy” in his alias represented his inclination to shun the limelight, while “toshi” was a tribute to Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin, and “Kusama” was an homage to the renowned Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama.

Last year during the ETH Toronto event, Shytoshi was scheduled to speak about Shibarium and even prepared a speech. However, instead of appearing in person, he released a recorded speech that had been processed by AI software. Previously, around a few years ago, Shytoshi mentioned on Twitter that his mentor had suggested he should come forward publicly. At one time, he considered following this advice.

Kusama’s recent announcement has prompted a positive reaction from the SHIB market, leading to a recovery of about 5% of the coin’s losses following an unexpected 15% drop during the night.
