A modder for the game Skyrim created a unique mod that lets players defeat dragons not with weapons, but through conversation. Instead of fighting, players can now have a detailed debate with dragons about the political situation in Tamriel.
Released in November 2011, Skyrim, the fifth game in The Elder Scrolls series, continues to be incredibly popular. A major reason for its lasting appeal is the huge number of modifications, or “mods,” available for PC and consoles. These mods range from simple changes to the game’s menus and displays to more complex alterations of how characters behave, even adding entirely new interactions not found in the original game.
Skyrim Player Creates Hilarious Dragon Debate Mod
While battles with dragons in Skyrim are typically filled with fighting, one modder created a mod that lets players have a debate with a dragon instead, discussing ideas and beliefs. This came about after a Twitch streamer named Blurbs asked his audience to suggest silly mod ideas. One suggestion, called “Dragon Geopolitical Debates,” allowed a dragon to appear and debate the player character, the Dragonborn, if two lecterns were placed down. The dragon’s responses were typed by viewers in Blurbs’ Twitch chat, who role-played as the dragon, while Blurbs played the Dragonborn. A recent YouTube video showed one such debate, where a question asked both participants for their opinions on whether Ibuprofen was causing vampirism to spread across Tamriel.
After the debate, Blurbs’ chat voted for a winner. The rules were that if the Dragonborn won, the dragon character would be defeated. While some Skyrim mods let Twitch viewers influence the game through character conversations, Blurbs’ custom mod isn’t available for download. Blurbs has also shared other custom Skyrim mods on his streams, like one that makes the Dragonborn summon angry chickens when using the Unrelenting Force shout. Another mod added a “bonk” sound effect whenever Blurbs hit an enemy with his weapon.
Skyrim Fans Continue to Provide the Game With Longevity
With Skyrim being an older game that’s still incredibly popular, players have created some truly strange and creative mods. But even without mods, you can have unique experiences in Skyrim. For example, players have discovered that the Telekinesis spell, combined with a cabbage, can be used to create a makeshift elevator. This not only improves your character’s Alteration skill but can also save you from dying in a fall.
Eventually, Skyrim won’t be the newest main Elder Scrolls game anymore. Since The Elder Scrolls 6 is still being made, it’s interesting to think about what fans will come up with while they wait for its release.
