Chad, who goes by the alias Hardhat and contributes to the Solana project Ore, announced on X that they would be pausing their mining operations because of heightened traffic on the Solana network.
Ore Mining Intensity Adds To Congestion Woes
The developer is confident that making this choice will benefit both the Solana and Ore communities. Hardhat Chad shares this view, believing it’s the quickest route to releasing v2 within the upcoming weeks. It seems that the addition of Ore mining might be contributing to Solana’s network congestion.
I have decided to pause all mining, effective immediately.
In my opinion, this action is beneficial for Solana, Ore stakeholders, and the most efficient way to advance towards version 2.

Significant happenings: The Ore project started approximately two weeks ago. A graduate student, Chaofan Shou from University of Berkley, reportedly makes $10,000 a day by mining ORE. This announcement sparked intrigue within the Solana community, leading to an increase in mining activities. In turn, this surge brought about more transactions on the Solana network, exacerbating its existing congestion issues.
Anatoly Yakovenko, co-founder of Solana, believed that forking ORE could potentially alleviate traffic jams on the network. To explore this possibility, he publicly suggested that anyone interested in stress testing the network by forking ORE should feel free to do so.
The goal was to attract a large number of visitors by generating intrigue, an approach intended to address the issue of heavy network usage that blockchains have been struggling with.
Shou presented ORE as a Solana-based token with a distinctive mining mechanism for obtaining the tokens. The foundation of this project relies on bloXroute and Jito Bundles. Yakovenko, who is optimistic about the profitability of this endeavor, thinks that expanding it to a broader audience through forking could be an attractive proposition for many.
Alternative Solutions To Tackle Solana Network Congestion
An recent advancement indicates that dividing ORE isn’t the answer Solana is seeking to manage recurring network congestion. Instead, Solana is investigating alternative strategies. Just two days ago, Solana unveiled an update for mainnet beta validators (v1.17.31) aimed at resolving congestion problems within the network.
Based on Solana’s statement, the update includes improvements to reduce the current traffic congestion on the Solana Network.
The Solana network is considering introducing Stake Weighted Quality of Service (SWQoS) as a solution to combat spam activities, functioning as an anti-Sybil/spam engine on its platform. This utility has gained attention due to the recurring network congestion issues.
Due to the halt in Ore mining, Solana is considering adopting one of these alternate solutions to help relieve the strain on its mainnet caused by the previous congestion resolution.
