Watching Sung Jinwoo in Season 2 of Solo Leveling was incredible. He really leveled up his abilities, especially by growing his Army of the Dead – something he started way back in episode 12. It’s been amazing to see how far he’s come and all the powerful shadows he’s gathered along the way. He’s added some serious muscle with shadows like Tusk, Tank, Kaisel, and most recently, Beru, who showed up in the season finale.
The upcoming season of Solo Leveling will focus on Jinwoo gaining even more shadow abilities. It will also make him stronger by unlocking the full potential of Ashborn – the powers of a true King – and eventually passing those abilities onto Sung Jinwoo. Ultimately, Solo Leveling is building towards establishing the main character as the King of the Dead.
Sung Jinwoo’s Next Evolution Will Officially Come In The Double Dungeon Arc of the Next Solo Leveling Season
The first two seasons of Solo Leveling, which premiered on Crunchyroll in January 2024 and January 2025, were incredibly popular, but they mainly served to set the stage for future storylines. Season 3 is where the series will really take off, with a significant increase in action and excitement. Fans are especially anticipating the major power-ups and revelations for key characters like Sung Jinwoo, which are expected to happen in this upcoming season.
Season 3 of Solo Leveling has a couple of smaller storylines, like the Recruitment and Ahjin Guild arcs, but the big one is the Double Dungeon arc. This is where we finally see Jinwoo return to Cartenon Temple after becoming a Level 100+ hunter. It’s a place with a lot of history for him – it’s where the story began, and he lost so much, including many of his teammates. He did gain the System and his incredible powers there, though. Now, he’s going back, and it’s at Cartenon Temple that he’ll officially earn the title of King of the Dead.

In the 2021 manhwa arc ‘Double Dungeon’ from Solo Leveling, the villain Kandiaru reveals a complex scheme: he intends to lure Jinwoo to the Cartenon Temple and possess his body, resurrecting the Shadow Monarch, Ashborn. Jinwoo was specifically selected as the ideal host for Ashborn. Kandiaru fights Jinwoo, nearly succeeding in taking control of his body, but is ultimately betrayed by Ashborn himself.
Ashborn was the first Shadow Monarch, existing in the world of Solo Leveling before Jinwoo. The entire story of Solo Leveling revolves around preparing Jinwoo to become the next Shadow Monarch. The system is designed to make Jinwoo powerful enough for this role, hinting at significant lore expansions in future seasons.
How Jinwoo Will Gain The Powers Of A King In The Upcoming Arcs Of The Story
Season 3 of Solo Leveling will showcase Sung Jinwoo’s greatest transformation yet. Ashborn, who previously worked alongside Kandiaru, will break away and instead support Jinwoo. Having observed Jinwoo’s incredible resilience and ability to overcome life-threatening situations, Ashborn recognizes his potential to become the next Shadow Monarch. Instead of possessing Jinwoo’s body, Ashborn will empower him, essentially crowning him as the new King of the Dead. This upcoming season will therefore mark the birth of a new King and the emergence of the strongest Monarch, all while introducing the series’ ultimate villain.
From this point on, Sung Jinwoo’s powers rapidly increase. He quickly becomes stronger than even the world’s top-ranked Hunters, eventually surpassing even national-level powerhouses. His strength reaches a point where only a handful of Monarchs can compare, making the series even more intense and challenging.

All Powers And Abilities Of Sung Jinwoo Following His King of the Dead Power Boost
I’ve been following Solo Leveling, and it’s amazing to see Sung Jinwoo’s progression in Season 3. His ‘King of the Dead’ ability is evolving, and it looks like he’s on track to become the True Shadow Monarch. The real turning point came when Ashborn gave him the Black Heart – it’s essentially Ashborn’s ultimate power, and now it’s Jinwoo’s. Immediately, Jinwoo’s mana shot up by 100,000, and he gained the incredible ability to create, regenerate, and multiply his shadows endlessly. Not only that, but his control over death itself is growing, allowing him to summon even more powerful shadows than before. It’s a huge power-up!
As the story progresses, Sung Jinwoo will acquire even more powerful shadow allies, some surpassing Beru and Igris in strength. Simultaneously, his own abilities – his physical strength, speed, and combat skills – will continue to improve. These developments will be showcased in Solo Leveling Season 3, which promises a stunning adaptation. Creator Atsushi Kaneko has stated his ambition for the new season to reach the same level of quality and popularity as a series like One Piece.
As someone living and working in Japan, honestly, this anime isn’t quite reaching the heights of giants like Dragon Ball, One Piece, or Naruto yet. But I’m really aiming for something special with season three – that’s when I want to see it truly break through and become a top-tier show!
Solo Leveling Season 3 Release Date
Fans are still waiting for news about the next installment of Solo Leveling. After Season 2 ended, there haven’t been any official announcements about when a new project will be revealed. Recent industry rumors suggest a release sometime in 2027, which seems likely given how popular the series is. Fans are eager to see how Studio A-1 Pictures will continue to bring Sung Jinwoo’s story to life in future seasons.
