Spider-Man Actor Tom Holland’s X Account Hacked to Promote Crypto Scam

The X social media account of movie star Tom Holland was recently compromised by hackers.

With over 7 million fans, this account made a false announcement that actor Tom Holland, known for his role as Spider-Man, was teaming up with Binance exchange to introduce “Spiderverse”. (Bad actors refer to individuals with malicious intent.)

An compromised account sent out a deceptive email with a link to a bogus website, enticing users to sign up for early access to a fraudulent SPIDER cryptocurrency and Spiderverse NFTs.

The post, which was initially pinned on his profile, has already been taken down.

Spider-Man NFTs

Although Holland’s “Spider-Verse” social media post is a hoax, Marvel has previously explored the world of Web3 technology.

Toward the end of 2021, AMC Theaters, a prominent American movie chain, teamed up with Sony Pictures to distribute thousands of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to customers who pre-purchased tickets for “Spider-Man: No Way Home” by Holland. This blockbuster movie amassed over $1.9 billion in revenues, making it a huge success. The NFT promotion played a significant role in AMC’s second-largest single-day ticket sales record.

Before this collaboration, VeVe, a New Zealand-based NFT company, had partnered with Marvel to provide Spider-Man NFTs. One of these NFTs showcased the initial Marvel comic book from 1939.

This year, VeVe – a digital collectibles platform powered by Ethereum – introduced NFT (Non-Fungible Token) comic collections featuring popular Marvel characters like Spider-Man and X-Men.
