As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent exploring the digital landscapes of various open-world games, I can confidently say that few have managed to captivate me quite like the enigmatic world of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl. Among its rich cast of characters, Strelok stands out as a true gem, his journey one that is etched deeply in my gaming memory.
Open-world games frequently feature a diverse array of captivating characters, ranging from the main hero, the major villain, artificial intelligence companions, to mere NPCs who offer quests. STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl is an example of such a game, boasting a significant number of vividly drawn characters, including heroes, villains, and individuals struggling to survive under difficult circumstances.
In the dismal area known as the Exclusion Zone surrounding the ruined Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, teeming with mutants and danger at every turn, some might assume that STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl would feature only somber characters. However, it’s not all grim; there are also vibrant, captivating personalities, and the original protagonist, Strelok, is one of the most unforgettable in the STALKER series.
The Lore Behind STALKER 2’s Strelok Explained
Strelok’s First Mission Into The Chornobyl Power Plant
Following the second fictional incident at Chornobyl in 2006, a group of scavengers made their way into the area surrounding the plant, aiming to find valuable and powerful artifacts for resale. These scavengers were soon known as “S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s,” with Strelok being one of the earliest members. During one of his numerous expeditions within the Zone, Strelok stumbled upon blueprints for an underground passageway that directly linked to the Chornobyl Power Plant at the center of the contaminated zone.
Typically, humans would stay at a distance from the core of the Zone because of the Monolith faction’s potent Brain Scorcher gadget, which could manipulate minds and turn individuals into slaves for their leader, the Common Consciousness – a collective of seven scientists who psychically linked. However, Strelok strategized and gathered a team to circumvent the Brain Scorcher.
As a seasoned Stalker alongside comrades Fang and Ghost, we ventured into the heart of Chornobyl’s ominous Power Plant, one of the few daring souls to set foot there alive. Yet, our thrilling journey was cut short when we stumbled upon a sealed door bearing an enigmatic code. Escaping the plant wasn’t easy, but our respite was brief, as the Common Consciousness retaliated with a potent Emission to halt our progress.
Strelok suffered severe injuries due to the Emission, and his colleagues barely managed to extract him from the facility. Later, overpowered by Monolith’s troops, Strelok was loaded onto a Death Truck – a vehicle belonging to Monolith that transports mind-controlled soldiers back into the Zone.
In this setting, the storyline of the game “STALKER: Clear Sky” unfolds. Here, Strelok takes on the role as the primary villain from the prequel.
Strelok Becomes The “Marked One” In Shadow of Chornobyl
As a gamer, I find myself ensnared within the haunting expanse of the Zone, my existence abruptly halted when the ominous Death Truck transporting Strelok collides with an anomaly. Miraculously, I’m extracted from the wreckage by a fellow Stalker, gasping for breath and clinging to life. My past is but a blur, and all that remains in my possession is a PDA that demands, “Kill Strelok.
Eventually, Strelok meets up with an old comrade from his Stalker team named Doc. This friend verifies Strelok’s identity and aids in reconstructing fragments of his lost memories. Additionally, Doc shares intel about a device called a decoder that can open the locked door of the Chornobyl power plant. Equipped with this knowledge, Strelok embarks on another mission to penetrate the Chornobyl power plant once more.
As a devoted fan, I’d put it like this:
Strelok Helps The Military’s Evacuation of the Zone in Call of Pripyat
In the game STALKER: Call of Pripyat, Strelok isn’t as central a character, but he does make an appearance towards the end. He advises the military on how they can safely deploy helicopters within the Zone. Later, during the evacuation of Pripyat, Strelok lends his assistance. In the ending of Call of Pripyat, Strelok takes up a consultancy role with a team of researchers studying the Zone.
