After much speculation, a new Star Fox game is officially coming! Simply called Star Fox, it will launch on June 25, 2026, as an exclusive title for the Nintendo Switch 2. The reveal trailer confirmed that this isn’t a brand-new story, but a remake of the classic Star Fox 64, featuring improved graphics and a new online multiplayer mode.
The Star Fox series is gaining popularity again! A recent surprise appearance in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, with Glen Powell voicing the character, sparked renewed interest. This, combined with rumors of a new game planned for 2026, has excited fans who haven’t seen a brand-new Star Fox game since Star Fox Zero in 2016. Now, with Star Fox officially confirmed to launch on the upcoming Switch 2 in just over a month, fans won’t have to wait much longer to join Fox, Falco, Peppy, and Slippy as they defend the Lylat system from the villainous Andross.
The canceled SNES game Star Fox 2 was also finally released in 2017 on the SNES Classic.

Some fans might be hesitant about another remake of Star Fox 64, especially after Star Fox Zero, but this new version seems to offer enough fresh content to appeal to both longtime players and newcomers. A key feature is online multiplayer in Battle Mode, where players can compete as either Team Star Fox or Team Star Wolf. The game will also take advantage of the Nintendo Switch 2’s optional mouse controls, allowing for more precise aiming. Additionally, two players can team up, with one controlling movement using a Joy-Con and the other handling aiming with the mouse.
The game brings back classic Star Fox elements, letting you pilot the Arwing, Landmaster, and Blue-Marine. You can also replay levels with Challenge Mode, which offers unique goals beyond the main story. For a truly retro experience, the game supports the Nintendo Switch Online 64 Controller. A surprisingly new feature is an AR filter for Nintendo Switch GameChat; when used with a compatible USB camera, it lets you transform into a Star Fox character like Fox McCloud, with an avatar that mirrors your facial expressions.
