Star Wars: KOTOR – The Best Builds

As a seasoned gamer who’s spent countless hours navigating the galaxy far, far away, I can confidently say that these builds are nothing short of remarkable! They cater to various playstyles and character archetypes, ensuring an immersive experience for every Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic (KOTOR) enthusiast.

In Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR), you can design your unique character as you embark on a fresh adventure. At the game’s outset, you’ll have three initial class options to pick from: Scout, Scoundrel, or Soldier. Each class offers distinct abilities and advantages.

At some stage, players have to select among three distinct Jedi roles: Guardian, Sentinel, and Consular. These roles offer a multitude of possibilities when crafting a character in KOTOR. Furthermore, the game provides Feats, Skills, and Force powers, enabling the creation of characters that cater to virtually any type or role.

Regardless of the player’s chosen build or lack thereof, having a defined objective and working towards it makes completing the game more straightforward and enjoyable, even if the game isn’t particularly challenging.

17 The Quadruple Hitter

Master Speed And Lightsaber Proficiency Are Deadly

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is celebrated for its richness, boasting a vast array of Skills and Feats that players can earn as they advance through the narrative. Remarkably, even though it was launched in the early 2000s when many games were constrained by console hardware, this game provided an exceptional range of options for players.

To put it simply, among all abilities in the game, Burst of Speed stands out as one of the most powerful. Initially a Knight Speed, it can be upgraded to Master Speed, a move that’s both lethal and swift. The final form of this ability not only propels players through the game at an incredible pace and across larger portions of the map, but it also grants them extra attacks. When combined with Lightsaber Proficiency and Two-Weapon Fighting, even though the latter comes with a disadvantage, it forms a formidable trio in late-game stages. This setup allows players to easily defeat nearly any enemy with minimal effort.

16 Droid Technician

Having Technical Skills Often Pays Off

In the universe of Star Wars, droids significantly influence the world’s dynamics, making it intriguing. But what makes Knights of the Old Republic stand out is that it empowers players to fix malfunctioning droids in certain game zones and even program them to attack foes. This additional feature can be decisive during battles.

Players can also use Computer Spikes to hack terminals and overload those in other rooms, killing groups of enemies without breaking a sweat. By investing points in the Repair and Security Skills, players will have to use fewer resources to hack droids and terminals, turning them into the ultimate programmer in the entire galaxy.

15 Mace Windu Build

Based On One Of The Greatest Jedi Duelists To Have Ever Existed

For those versed in Star Wars history, Mace Windu was not your typical Jedi. He navigated a delicate balance between the light and dark sides of the Force, particularly with his unique lightsaber combat style. This character build commences with the Soldier class before transitioning to the Guardian Jedi class. The appropriate feats for this class would be Lightsaber Mastery, Rapid Strikes, Jedi Protection, Duelist, and Endurance feats. Perception would be the optimal skill choice.

In combat, Windu’s technique leans more towards agility rather than brute force, but it’s important not to ignore strength. Additionally, intelligence and vitality should also be developed. A good starting point for stats would be: 12 Strength, 15 Dexterity, 14 Intelligence (or Wisdom), and 14 Vitality (or Constitution). The Force abilities suitable for a Windu build include Speed Boost, Force Push, Force Shield, Courage, Throwing the Lightsaber, and Stun Droid.

14 Jedi Hunter

Ideal Against Other Force Users

This construction is tailored for effortlessly overpowering other force-wielders. Nevertheless, it doesn’t imply that this setup is vulnerable against other adversaries. Anyone competent enough to vanquish any Jedi or Sith they face should find a droid or bounty hunter relatively straightforward to defeat.

In this setup, you’ll be employing abilities such as Force Suppression, Force Resistance, Force Push, Stun, and Burst of Speed. As for your playstyle, you can either opt for the Duelist or Two-Weapon approach. The Scout is an excellent choice for this configuration thanks to its implants. Some other features that synergize best with this build are Force Immunity, Toughness, and Conditioning. For this particular setup, the Sentinel class from the Jedi order is ideal.

13 Demolitions Expert

Decimating Enemies, One Explosion After Another

One less common character build in this Star Wars game involves utilizing explosives as the primary weapon instead of a lightsaber, which is typically the go-to choice for players. Given that the game allows us to create and play as a Jedi, it’s no surprise that many overlook this option. However, there are compelling reasons to consider explosives: for instance, unlike a lightsaber, they can be used to counteract explosive blasts.

In the game KOTOR, you’ll find eight distinct types of grenades, along with the widely recognized thermal detonators. Each grenade serves a unique function: Frag grenades are for general damage, Ion grenades swiftly disable droids, while Plasma grenades inflict heavy damage and trigger fear. Additionally, there are Concussion, Cryo, Adhesive, Poison, and Sonic grenades as well. The Scout class is the optimal choice for this build, thanks to its Uncanny Dodge feat that lowers the challenge level when throwing grenades precisely.

12 Speed Demon

Among Many Other Advantages, This Build Allows Players To Cover Areas Faster

This “Speedy Rival” setup is engineered for swift movement on the battlefield, leaving opponents bewildered as to the source of their surprise attack. The journey begins with the Scoundrel character type, eventually transitioning into a Guardian. This transformation primarily focuses on acquiring the Force Jump ability, which is exclusive to the Guardian class.

In this game, the main Jedi abilities are Speed Burst, Force Push, and Slow. A smart tactic is to push an opponent away with Force Push and then immediately attack with a Force Jump. The character’s movement speed can feel sluggish; consider testing out this build during your next playthrough to ease the back-and-forth running.

11 Delayed Build

An Outstanding Choice To Create The Ultimate Jedi

This construction might prove challenging initially, as the character needs to abstain from leveling up until they transform into a Jedi. It’s recommended to keep your character at level three until after you’ve completed Taris. Be prepared to restart the game frequently. The boss fight at Taris is especially tough at this low level, even for the Soldier class.

If the player manages to accomplish this task, they’ll be granted the ability to create a powerful Jedi character instead.

This will give the player’s Jedi a lot more force points, but fewer feats. With this in mind, the Jedi Consular class is ideal for this build. With this build, the player can spam Force Storm until the fight is over.

10 Master Duelist

Making Close Combat A Priority

In this build, the Jedi character seems incredibly close to what numerous players envisioned as their ideal Jedi on their initial playthrough. This master swordsman is agile and swift in combat, effortlessly taking down enemies with a single stroke of their lightsaber. After all, given that it’s a Star Wars game, such dynamic combat style seems fitting.

In this game construction, players should initially select a Scout character and subsequently opt for the Guardian Jedi class. It’s crucial to enhance the character’s Strength, Constitution, and Wisdom; however, don’t forget about Charisma and Dexterity either. Acquire the Dueling feat, and the Flurry and Toughness feats will significantly boost your character’s effectiveness in combat.

9 Smooth Talker

A Sharp Tongue Is Often More Effective Than A Weapon

In my experience, particularly with Bioware games, crafting a character skilled in communication can prove quite beneficial. This ability unlocks conversations that would otherwise be off-limits, granting me additional dialogue choices. These bonus options not only net me extra credits, but also allow characters to negotiate their way to success, making victory more attainable through words rather than force.

As a devoted admirer of this game, I’d say the most effective character setup unfolds when you initially choose the Scoundrel class, only to later transition into the Consular Jedi path.

In this game, you’ll find that the character acquires the Persuade ability early on. To maximize this build, focus on enhancing its Charisma and Intelligence attributes. The Intelligence is crucial as it determines how many skill points you can assign to Persuade. This build also offers a beneficial opportunity to invest around 17 points in the Repair skill, which will help you acquire HK 47.

8 The Canonical Revan Build

Role-playing As The Fearsome Sith Lord

As a devoted Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic enthusiast, I’d like to share that this character creation mirrors the talents and powers of Darth Revan, a significant figure in the Star Wars lore. For those who are new to KOTOR, let me fill you in – Revan is a Sith Lord grappling with amnesia, serving as the game’s central protagonist.

This character setup initiates with the Scout class as its foundation, and later progresses to the Sentinel Jedi class. The main attribute emphasized in this setup is Wisdom, while Charisma and Intelligence serve secondary roles. Do remember to allocate points into the physical attributes (Strength, Constitution, Dexterity) occasionally as well. This build incorporates the two-weapon fighting feat; however, opting for the Dueling feat is also a valid choice within the lore.

7 Critical Strike Build

One Of The Most Powerful Late-game Builds

Initially, the rewards for Critical Strikes might seem unattractive in the early stages of the game. Consequently, players tend to opt for abilities and traits that offer quicker advantages. Yet, by the latter stages of the game, a Critical Strike setup can become one of the most potent builds.

As a devoted fan, I’ve crafted a character utilizing the Scoundrel class, leveraging its Critical Strike and Luck abilities – the latter nullifying the usual -5% penalty on Critical Strikes. My priority attribute for this build is Strength, aiming to maximize it as much as possible. To truly capitalize on my critical hits, I’ve boosted my Sneak Attack. Lastly, I always equip Keen weapons, appreciating their bonus for critical strikes.

6 Blaster Master Build

Destroy Enemies From A Distance

Choosing to act like a Jedi often leads players to instinctively opt for the lightsaber as their primary weapon. After all, what other weapon could slice through most things with such effortless ease? Yet, if a character is designed around using blasters, they can be equally lethal. Now, I’m trying to remember… How did Obi-Wan defeat General Grievous?

For this character setup, we’re employing the Scout class primarily for its Rapid Shot skill and additional implants. The chosen Jedi class here is Sentinel. Prioritizing Dexterity, then Charisma, and finally Wisdom are crucial, aiming to have these stats at 15 or higher. The ability to wield two blasters in combat, a favorite among players, is facilitated by the Two-weapon fighting style. As the saying goes, “Faith moves mountains, but a good blaster is a player’s best companion.

5 Immunity Build

Status Effects Will Never Be An Issue Again

Status conditions can swiftly transform an imminent triumph into a devastating loss. Eliminating concerns over characters becoming stunned, toxic, or afflicted by other status maladies greatly simplifies gameplay.

In this character setup, you’ll be blending the Scout and Sentinel Jedi classes. The effectiveness of this build can vary greatly depending on the equipment chosen and the skills or abilities selected. Key items to prioritize include the Advanced Bio-Stabilizer Mask for resistance against poison and mind influence, the Retinal Combat Implant for protection against critical hits, and the Electrical Capacitance Shield for immunity to electricity, even force lightning. Additionally, it’s important to enhance your Force Resistance power as much as possible.

4 Ultimate Scoundrel

A Sneaky Approach To Combat

Rushing recklessly into combat, brandishing a lightsaber erratically, is one approach in KOTOR. A contrasting tactic involves lurking in the background and engaging opponents at the player’s discretion. The thief character class, for instance, excels by remaining undetected until it’s time to strike, and maximizing each attack’s potential.

It’s clear that this construction plan suggests beginning as a Scoundrel for the Stealth and Sneak Attack abilities. You can choose between Jedi classes, either Guardian or Consular. The Guardian class enables Force Jumps, which means players won’t have to sneak their way to an enemy all the time. The bonus force powers of the Consular class also complement this setup nicely. This build mainly employs blasters, but when enemies get too close, switch to a lightsaber.

3 Force Build

Who Needs A Lightsaber With Such Mastery Of The Force?

In this setup, the emphasis lies on harnessing force abilities rather than relying on conventional weaponry. It’s quite similar to playing a mage character in games such as Skyrim, where your character starts off with limited power but becomes significantly stronger over time. By the finale of the game, it can obliterate groups of enemies within mere seconds. This is particularly noticeable when players opt for the dark side path.

In simpler terms, the Force Build fusion of Soldier and Consular characters provides an edge in different stages of the game. Initially, having a Soldier character ensures survival due to their robustness. On the other hand, the Consular class offers a wider array of Force abilities compared to other Jedi classes. For the most Force points, it’s crucial to prioritize improving the Wisdom attribute significantly.

2 Darth Build

Joining The Dark Side Is A Small Price To Pay For Unlimited Power

As a gamer, I’m here to share a build tailored for those who crave an intimidating, lethal character reminiscent of the legendary “Darth” figures. It goes without saying that this path demands allegiance to the dark side, but let me tell you, the thrill and excitement the dark powers offer are unparalleled!

In this character setup, players opt for both Scout and Consular classes. The desired abilities include two-weapon fighting, Flurry, and Heavy Armor Proficiency specifically for the Sith Mask. The main emphasis is on mastering Drain Life, Force Lightning, and Choke/Kill force powers. Strength and Wisdom are prioritized as primary attributes, while Dexterity and Constitution serve secondary roles in this build’s development.

1 Obi-Wan Build

A Very Balanced Build

This construction embodies the skills of the wise Jedi Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi. It cultivates robust characters proficient in wielding a lightsaber, harnessing the Force, and influencing others (as the game progresses).

This build is a combination of a Scout and a Guardian (for Force Jump).

In simpler terms, this character setup emphasizes Dexterity, Wisdom, and Charisma as its key attributes. This build incorporates the Dueling, Flurry, Weapon Focus (for Lightsaber), and Jedi Defense feats. Additionally, it utilizes Force Push, Mind Affect, Valor, and Speed powers.

The action-packed game, Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic, can be enjoyed right now on computers, PlayStation 5, mobile devices like Android and iOS, and also on Nintendo Switch.
