- Xbox insider highlights player counts for top Xbox Game Studios titles like Overwatch, Forza Horizon 5, and Sea of Thieves.
- Xbox Game Pass offers popular games at no extra cost, with titles like Halo Infinite and Starfield showing significant player numbers.
As a dedicated Xbox gamer with years of experience under my belt, I’m always excited to learn about the latest player numbers for some of my favorite games on the platform. The recent revelation from an Xbox insider that Overwatch leads the pack with over 100 million players is truly astounding and speaks to its enduring popularity.
A person who is privy to Xbox information compiled and shared on social media a chart showcasing the most-played Xbox Game Studios titles based on player numbers. The Xbox data reveals that “Overwatch” leads with more than 100 million players, while “Forza Horizon 5” and “Sea of Thieves” follow closely behind, each boasting over 40 million players.
The Xbox brand was occupied with important matters when the news broke out: The Xbox 360 marketplace will close down towards the end of July, marking nearly twenty years of operation. Although some Xbox 360 games can be played on later models such as Xbox One through backward compatibility, Microsoft is offering significant discounts on numerous Xbox 360 titles as a farewell gesture. Furthermore, to capitalize on Amazon’s Prime Days, Microsoft partnered with Amazon’s FireTV service instead of providing an Xbox console in their bundle deal. Instead, the package included a FireTV Stick, an Xbox Wireless Controller, and one month of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for $78.90.
As an avid gamer and an Xbox Game Pass subscriber, I’m thrilled about the perk of accessing a wealth of Microsoft’s top-selling franchises at no extra cost. Not only that, but titles from companies Microsoft has acquired over the years are included as well! According to Klobrille’s recent social media post, the most popular Xbox game by player count is none other than Overwatch, boasting an impressive 100 million players across all platforms. Although the original Overwatch is no longer playable, its sequel, Overwatch 2, continues to captivate audiences with regular updates and new heroes. Following closely behind are Forza Horizon 5 and Sea of Thieves, each amassing a player base of 40 million. Minecraft Dungeons and The Elder Scrolls Online aren’t far behind, boasting 25 and 24 million players respectively. In comparison, Halo Infinite and Starfield trail with 20 and 14 million players each.
Xbox Game Studios Player Numbers (July 2024)
As a fan, I’d rephrase it like this: In their post’s response section, Klobrille explained that the player count data encompassed overall player numbers and included those accessing games via Xbox Game Pass. Consequently, certain titles saw increased counts. Nevertheless, Klobrille noted that popular games such as “Forza Motorsport,” “Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2,” and the “Call of Duty” series were not represented in their ranking because Xbox hasn’t disclosed their respective numbers.
The extent to which Xbox Game Pass influences the number of players isn’t clear, yet it underscores the diversity of the service. It remains to be seen if additional Xbox games will join the popular titles in upcoming releases.
