The iconic sci-fi anime “Steins;Gate” is gearing up for its 15th anniversary, and given the show’s enduring popularity over the past decade, it’s no wonder that some thrilling events are in store to commemorate this milestone. In Japan, there will probably be temporary stores and unique collaboration cafes opening within the next year, and if fortune favors us, there might also be museums or art shows dedicated to the series. The most recent news about how “Steins;Gate” is kicking off its significant anniversary includes a fresh collection of artwork and merchandise, with the main heroines depicted as bunny girls.

Today, news broke through PR Times, a Japanese news aggregator, about upcoming merchandise featuring “Steins;Gate” characters in bunny girl versions. The announcement also unveiled the product line inspired by this new artwork, but here’s the catch – it will only be available for purchase through an online lottery system. This means that acquiring these exclusive items might prove to be quite challenging.

Steins;Gate Gets a Bunny Girl Makeover

The Art You Never Knew You Needed

As an anime like Steins;Gate celebrates its 15th anniversary and continues to captivate audiences, it becomes tricky to generate excitement for new merchandise. Fans may already own the action figures, keychains, badges, posters, and t-shirts that appeal to them. To recapture their interest – and, naturally, encourage more spending – fresh merchandise must offer something unique compared to items available for over a decade. Consequently, these unexpected transformations or “makeovers” take place, offering fans a refreshingly new interpretation of beloved characters.

In this captivating artwork, I find myself marveling at how the characters from Steins;Gate have been reimagined as charming bunny girls! The artists have truly outdone themselves by infusing a touch of allure in each one of them. Among the transformed ladies are Kurisu Makise, Mayuri Shiina, Akiha Rumiho, and Suzuha Amane, who are adorned in bunny girl costumes that exude an electric Vegas-style energy. They’re holding props like playing cards, drinks, and server notepads that add to the lively atmosphere of the piece. It’s a delightful twist on these beloved characters!

The press release describes this special lottery as (translated from Japanese),

In exactly one year and six months, there will be a first-ever lottery themed around “Steins;Gate”. The artwork for this event features the four main heroines – Kurisu Makise, Mayuri Shiina, Akiha Rumiho, and Suzuha Amane from the series – dressed as bunny girls, and they will be present at the party to welcome everyone. This lottery is being held in celebration of “Steins;Gate” which is currently celebrating its 15th anniversary.

The artwork is named “Steins;Gate 15th Anniversary Party,” and it’s part of an online raffle organized by MAGIC KUJI ONLINE. In other words, the related merchandise can only be obtained through a lottery system on the internet, where you buy tickets for 990 yen ($6.65 USD) each. The prize you receive is randomly determined. Every ticket guarantees a win, but some prizes are less common than others. You won’t be able to buy any of the merchandise separately or directly, and all items will be exclusive to this special raffle.

The fresh collection encompasses large wall scrolls showcasing each character, substantial acrylic figures, smaller acrylic figures, key chains in a chibi art style, metal pins, and additional small wall scrolls too. The majority of the artwork displays the characters in their new bunny-girl appearance, except for the smaller acrylic figures that include the women wearing formal dresses alongside other series characters. This merchandise may initially be challenging to obtain outside Japan, particularly on its release date, February 26th. For now, international fans can only appreciate the artwork.

Is Steins;Gate Really 15 Years Old?

Anime Anniversaries are Weird

It’s possible you might find it surprising that Steins;Gate is commemorating its 15th Anniversary in 2025, given it first premiered in 2011. If we do the calculation, the series would actually be 14 years old by then. Yet, this isn’t unusual for anime, particularly well-known titles like Steins;Gate. Popular anime and even games sometimes start celebrating their major anniversaries a year ahead to allow ample time for releasing new merchandise or hosting special events spanning over a year or more.

In 2025, it won’t be wrong to say that Steins;Gate is celebrating its 15th year, given that the story takes place in 2010. This means we are right on schedule to start celebrating Steins;Gate’s 15th anniversary now! The upcoming year might bring even more excitement as we approach the actual air date anniversary in 2026, making it an exciting time for Steins;Gate fans!
