It’s been a busy week for strategy and wargaming fans! R.U.S.E. has unexpectedly returned to Steam, The Troop received a free update with new units, and a remastered version of Theater of War is on the way! Let’s dive into all the latest news.

Theatre of War Is Being Remastered

I was just thinking about the Theatre of War games! It’s been ages since I’ve heard anyone mention them. I think I still have the original game boxes somewhere. I always found it a bit confusing – it was a really detailed strategy game, but the performance was so bad, with a really low frame rate, that I could never get very far into it. I could only manage a couple of missions before getting frustrated.

Theatre of War Rearmed aims to completely overhaul the series and make it a truly enjoyable experience. This ambitious project, created by a single developer, combines all the main games and expansions, letting you fight across conflicts from 1943 Africa to the Korean War. Everything has been updated to the latest engine version, now with 64-bit support, revised core mechanics, smarter AI, Steam Workshop compatibility, a redesigned interface, and improved graphics. I’m going to check it out today and might share my thoughts next Tuesday.

R.U.S.E. Is Back On Steam

R.U.S.E., a strategy game originally released in 2010 by Eugen Systems and published by Ubisoft, is available again on Steam after being removed a few years ago. It’s fondly remembered for its incredibly stylish trailer featuring people in suits controlling units on a large tablet – very much a product of its time! While it’s definitely showing its age and wasn’t a critical success initially, its return is a surprise, especially with a $30 price tag, which seems quite high.

Maneuver Warfare 2: BTG Is Tackling The Russo-Ukrainian War

Decisive Action Games is dramatically updating their game, Maneuver Warfare 2, shifting the setting from World War II to the 2022 conflict in Ukraine. The new version, titled Maneuver Warfare 2: BTG, will include a complete campaign and let players design and command their own Battalion Tactical Groups (BTG).

Europa Universalis 5 Biggest Update To Date

Europa Universalis 5 just launched its massive 1.2 “Enchinades” update, overhauling massive areas of the game. Here are the main highlights:

  • 300 New advances and 150 new Historical Events for the Balkan regions;
  • Economic Overhaul that reworks route logic and Marietime Presence mechanics, as well as a new Trade Orders feature;
  • A reworked Orthodox Church;
  • Logistical overhaul for the military and distinct upgrade paths for heavy and light troops;
  • New in-game Event Viewer.
