Growing up, a whole generation of anime fans loved pretending to be ninjas, all thanks to Naruto. It makes sense – the ninjas in the show had awesome designs and could perform incredible special moves. While many fans think the most powerful ninjas are only found in Naruto, there are actually a lot of strong ninja characters in other anime series that deserve just as much attention.
It’s interesting to note that many powerful ninja characters from anime other than Naruto can use ninja techniques or abilities similar to those seen in the show. One ninja, in particular, would be incredibly powerful in the world of Naruto thanks to a unique visual ability. While they’re all physically stronger than average, some of these ninja have amazing speed and reflexes, and a few even possess powers that seem almost magical.
10. Edgeshot
- Anime: My Hero Academia
Shinya Kamihara, the Pro Hero known as Edgeshot, used to be ranked among the top five heroes in Japan, making him incredibly popular and respected. His hero costume is inspired by traditional ninja designs, and he even incorporates ninja hand signals, reminiscent of the anime Naruto. Like other heroes in My Hero Academia, Edgeshot possesses exceptional strength and agility, and is also a skilled planner and strategist.
I’ve always been impressed by Edgeshot’s Quirk, Foldabody. It’s seriously one of the most effective body manipulation abilities in MHA. He can flatten himself into an incredibly thin, sharp strand – almost like a living wire – and do it at the speed of sound! It’s how he gets into and out of places so quickly, launching surprise attacks. When he’s in string form, he can take down multiple enemies at once by slicing through them and briefly disrupting their circulation. It reminds me of the ninja in Naruto – he can even pull off a substitution technique, swapping himself with a log!
9. Utsuro
- Anime: Gintama
Though Gintama takes place in a futuristic version of old Japan, it features characters like Utsuro, a powerful ninja. Utsuro originally created the secret assassin group, Tenshouin Naraku, and is now a leader within the Tendoshu, a shadowy organization that controls much of the Gintama world. When he was young, Utsuro absorbed a lot of Altana energy, which made him immortal and gave him the ability to heal extremely quickly.
Living for a very long time and experiencing countless ‘deaths’ has made Utsuro completely fearless and detached. He’s also become an incredibly skilled fighter, both with swords and hand-to-hand combat, possessing greatly enhanced strength, speed, reflexes, and senses. He can effortlessly defeat three expert swordsmen simultaneously, and his punches deliver tremendous power when he focuses his inner energy.
8. Tengen Uzui
- Anime: Demon Slayer
In the anime Demon Slayer, the Hashira are the most powerful sword fighters in the Demon Slayer Corps. Tengen Uzui was known as the Sound Hashira, but he had to stop fighting after sustaining injuries. He came from a strict ninja family where siblings were forced to battle each other during training. Disgusted by this brutal way of life, he left before he was made to fight his final brother.
Tengen developed his unique Sound Breathing style, combining his incredibly sharp hearing, ninja training, and specialized weapons – dual cleavers and explosive bombs. He also uses a technique called Musical Score, where he analyzes an opponent’s movements to predict their attacks. Tengen is a remarkably powerful sound user in the world of Shonen anime. His abilities allowed him to battle evenly with an Upper Moon Demon, a creature far stronger than most members of the Akatsuki from Naruto.
7. Gabimaru
- Anime: Hell’s Paradise
I’ve been watching the story of Gabimaru, the main character in Hell’s Paradise, and he’s a truly terrifying figure. He earned a reputation across the country for being a cold-blooded killer, seemingly without any empathy. He was rigorously trained by the leader of Iwagakure to be an unstoppable ninja – I even heard stories of him taking down experienced criminals while handcuffed! What’s even more unbelievable is that he’s strong enough to fight on par with the Tensen, who are basically the ninja world’s equivalent of the powerful Otsutsuki Clan from Naruto.
Gabimaru is highly skilled in hand-to-hand combat thanks to his training, and he can also use fire-based ninja techniques in battle. He can engulf himself in flames and attack with fire projectiles or by directly hitting opponents. His attacks are even comparable to the famous Fireball Jutsu from the Naruto series. If Gabimaru were to enter the world of Naruto, he would likely be considered one of the most powerful ninja from the Hidden Stone Village (Iwagakure).
6. Saizo Kirigakure
- Anime: Brave 10
In the anime Brave 10, Saizo rises to lead the Sanada Ten Braves – a powerful team of warriors loyal to Yukimura Sanada. Each member embodies a different natural element, and Saizo, despite appearing cold and detached, represents light. A skilled ninja from Iga, Saizo works as an assassin because he doesn’t trust lords, seeing them as using people for their own purposes.
I’m completely fascinated by Saizo! His main weapon is this massive kunai called the Mari-Blade, but he’s prepared for anything – he carries regular kunai, throwing knives, hidden blades, and even explosives! What’s really cool is that even though he can’t use traditional ninjutsu, he’s become a master of other ninja techniques. He’s got this amazing ability to bend light, letting him hide throwing knives and create afterimages, which is so deceptive! And the Mari-Blade isn’t just for show – he can deliver incredibly powerful slashes with it, and even reflect enemy attacks! It’s an awesome combination of skill and weaponry.
5. Higan
- Anime: Ninja Kamui
Even though it’s short with only 13 episodes so far, Ninja Kamui is quickly becoming recognized as one of the best ninja anime, aside from Naruto. The show is gritty and action-packed, centering on Higan, a highly skilled ninja who comes out of retirement to get revenge for his family. What sets it apart from Naruto is that Higan faces off against ninjas who use technology to enhance their abilities and fighting styles.
Higan is a highly trained fighter, skilled in hand-to-hand combat, spying, and moving undetected. He’s also a master of many weapons. His abilities earned him access to a powerful, forbidden technique called “The Secret Art,” which allows him to greatly enhance his strength and speed using spiritual energy. When using this technique, he can quickly defeat numerous opponents. Higan is an expert at silent takedowns and can create a shadowy form to hide himself and increase the power of his attacks.
4. Speed-O’-Sound Sonic
- Anime: One Punch Man
Speed-o’-Sound Sonic is a frequent enemy in the anime One Punch Man who considers Saitama his rival. However, Saitama is incredibly powerful, and Sonic always loses when they fight. Sonic grew up in a ninja village and was trained as a ninja from a young age. While he appears calm, Sonic enjoys fighting and can become consumed by a desire for battle.
Sonic is a highly skilled ninja and assassin, powerful enough to compete with top-level heroes. Years of training have given him incredible speed and agility. He’s a master swordsman, able to defeat multiple opponents in an instant. His speed suggests he could match the pace of two of the fastest ninja in the Naruto series: the Fourth Raikage and Minato Namikaze.
3. Sui-Feng
- Anime: Bleach
I’m a huge fan of Sui-Feng! As the Captain of Squad 2 in Bleach, she’s seriously one of the most powerful Soul Reapers around. What’s even cooler is she leads the Stealth Force – basically the Soul Society’s ninja squad, handling secret missions, spying, and even assassinations. She’s incredibly skilled in close combat, and her mastery of Shunpo and Shunko makes her unbelievably fast – easily one of the quickest characters in the whole series!
While Sui-Feng’s Bankai isn’t considered one of the most overwhelmingly powerful in Bleach, it’s still a formidable ability. She actually dislikes her Bankai, which takes the form of a large, self-guided missile. She much prefers the Shikai form of her Zanpakuto, as it better suits her fast-paced fighting style. Her blade is incredibly dangerous; if she strikes the same spot on an opponent twice, it instantly destroys their body.
2. Recca Hanabishi
- Anime: Flame of Recca
Recca Hanabishi has always loved ninjas, so he was thrilled to learn he belonged to The Hokage clan – famous for crafting magical weapons. Like other members of the clan, Recca can create fire, which he combines with things like firebombs and smoke bombs.
Recca has a unique power: he can tap into the special abilities of past Hokage leaders using his flames, eventually learning to use them all. This allows him to create powerful attacks like flame blades from his wrists and unleash multiple fireballs simultaneously. He can also form whips and barriers of fire, blast opponents with intense heat, and even create illusions with formless flames. His most devastating ability is summoning a fiery dragon capable of destroying souls. If Recca were in the world of Naruto, he’d be considered an exceptionally skilled Fire Style ninja.
1. Gennosuke Koga
- Anime: Basilisk
Gennosuke Koga comes from the Koga Manjidani, a famous ninja clan with a long history. Though they’re normally forbidden from fighting in wars, Gennosuke will defend his clan by any means necessary. He’s a skilled swordsman and, even if blinded, his heightened senses make him a formidable opponent.
Gennosuke, like others from his family, has a special ability called “Dojutsu,” which affects the eyes. This power lets him turn an enemy’s desire to kill him into a desire to kill themselves. What makes Gennosuke unique is that he doesn’t need to look at someone to activate this ability, and he can control it at will. Considering the many powerful eye-based abilities in the Naruto universe, Gennosuke’s Dojutsu would be considered exceptionally strong.
