Take-Two CEO Says PC Gamers Are Not GTA 6’s “Core Consumer”

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to come out on November 19, 2026, but only for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC version won’t be available when the game first launches. Take-Two Interactive’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, shared this information in an interview with Bloomberg on May 5, 2026.

Strauss Zelnick of Rockstar Games explained to Bloomberg that they always launch their games on consoles first. He believes it’s important to prioritize their dedicated fanbase – the players who are most invested in their games. He stated that if those core players aren’t happy with the initial release, it’s difficult to attract other players later on.

This release strategy is typical for Rockstar Games. Their recent titles – including Grand Theft Auto V, Red Dead Redemption 2, the original Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire, and Max Payne 3 – all came to PC after being released on consoles. For example, the PC version of Grand Theft Auto V launched a year and a half after the initial release, and six months after it was re-released on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Okay, so as a huge GTA fan, I’m still waiting to hear if GTA 6 is actually coming to PC! The CEO, Zelnick, didn’t say anything about it in a recent interview. There’s been a lot of talk over the years that Rockstar likes to release games on consoles first, then on PC later, and some people think they do this so players will buy the game twice. But honestly, I’m okay with waiting if it means the PC version will be amazing! We saw with Red Dead Redemption 2 that the PC version looked so much better than the console versions, so I’m hoping they take that extra time to make GTA 6 on PC truly incredible.

Strauss Zelnick noted last year that more and more players are choosing to game on PC, making the lack of a PC release on day one for the 2026 title particularly noticeable. The PC version of Grand Theft Auto V remained popular for years, thanks to its active modding community.

Grand Theft Auto 6 was initially announced in December 2023. After a year of silence, Rockstar Games announced in May 2025 that the game’s release was being pushed back from Fall 2025 to May 2026. Another update in November 2025 then set the current release date for November 19, 2026. As of May 2026, there haven’t been any further delays, and publisher Take-Two has said they’ll be increasing marketing efforts over the summer, though they haven’t shared specific dates.

Regarding the price, Strauss Zelnick denied reports that the game would be significantly more expensive than a typical new game, but wouldn’t reveal the actual cost. Meanwhile, a quality assurance tester at Rockstar’s India studio described the work environment as very demanding, noting that employees were expected to work long hours as the release date approached.

Strauss Zelnick spoke directly about the creative culture at Rockstar Games. He explained that they don’t celebrate achievements until they actually happen. He emphasized that Rockstar has incredibly talented teams, and they actively encourage – even require – these teams to follow their creative passions. They provide these teams with extensive resources – financial, creative, and personnel – and expect them to strive for excellence.

He once called GTA 6 “the greatest entertainment ever created.” In a recent interview with Bloomberg, he admitted that launching the game is both incredibly exciting and nerve-wracking due to the huge expectations. He explained that their aim is to create an experience unlike anything players have seen before.

Grand Theft Auto V has been released on several different consoles over the years, and a special ‘Definitive Edition’ is now available on computers. Console gamers can start playing on November 19th, and PC players are hoping the game will become available on their platform soon after.
