Reef Entertainment, a well-known British video game publisher, has unveiled the upcoming release of “Terminator 2D: No Fate” on various platforms including Steam, PlayStation 5 and 4, Xbox Series X/S and One, Nintendo Switch, and both Steam and Epic Games Store, scheduled for September 5. This new “Terminator” game is a 2D title, as the name implies, boasting a pixel-art style reminiscent of ’90s arcade games. Players will have the opportunity to command characters such as Sarah Connor, John Connor, and T-800, battling against not only the infamous T-1000 but also an array of enemies from the “Terminator” universe. In a recent PS Blog post, Bitmap Bureau Design Director Mike Tucker described “No Fate” as an ode to ’80s and ’90s arcade games and stated that their aim was to create the side-scrolling “Terminator 2” game we should have had when we were younger.

No Fate” is based on the 1991 film “Terminator 2: Judgment Day“, revisiting some iconic scenes from the movie and adding other untold stories within the Terminator universe. The music in the game, much like its sequel, also evokes a similar atmosphere. When comparing this game to “T2“, Tucker mentioned that the missions not only retell the film’s storyline but also expand upon it, weaving new threads into the original narrative.

Fortunately for enthusiasts, it isn’t just Terminator 2D: No Fate that will be gracing shelves in 2025 within the sci-fi series. Instead, there’s another title on its way – Terminator: Survivors, a game set in an open world, which was initially announced in 2022 and is currently being developed at Nacon. Unfortunately, due to a delay last year, the precise release date for this game remains unclear at present.
