Terra Luna Classic Community Pool Hits 5 Billion LUNC, Is It Good or Bad?

The balance in the Terra Luna Classic community pool has reached a new record-breaking height of 5 billion LUNC. This achievement marks an important milestone for the community, as more resources are now accessible to developers and other project supporters. However, there’s cause for concern due to the decrease in development activity, as evidenced by recent data on TVL (Total Value Locked) and commitments on the chain.

LUNC Balance Rise in Terra Luna Classic Community Pool

According to StakeBin’s latest update, the Terra Luna Classic community pool holds approximately 5.06 billion LUNC and 11.8 million USTC. Yet, the community has not fully taken advantage of these resources, which could result in a potential loss of momentum and setbacks in recovery efforts if not used effectively.

Based on DefiLlama’s data, there’s been a significant decrease in development activity. Commits dropped from 760 in March 2023 to only 371 in March 2024, with just 79 commits recorded this month. This decline can be attributed to several factors. Firstly, the Terra Luna Classic community’s requirement for KYC (Know Your Customer) for development work on the chain may have caused a shortage of qualified developers. Furthermore, the implementation of pay-per-job (PPJ) proposals resulted in some projects being abandoned or terminated due to disagreements among developers.

In addition, the total value secured on the blockchain has decreased from $7.51 million in December 2023 to just $2.27 million currently. Efforts to restore functionality are ongoing by various teams, yet so far have not managed to attract new developers and projects to the chain.

The yield from initiatives like Astroport Classic, Terraswap, Eris Protocol, Soluna, and other similar projects has decreased by around 5-8% within the past 24 hours.

At the same time, the community has rejected the suggestion to establish a specialized squad for managing the Terra Classic blockchain. Critics among the validators argue against this plan due to concerns over centralization, potential clashes with the pay-per-job model, and an absence of clear developer KYC guidelines.

LUNC and USTC Price Plunge
