As we head into the second half of 2026, it’s a great time to look ahead at the upcoming strategy games. The next year looks fantastic for fans of real-time and turn-based strategy, with major releases like Dawn of War 4 and Total War: Warhammer 40,000 on the way. Plus, Star Wars: Zero Company is coming soon, alongside exciting indie titles such as D.O.R.F. and Kriegsfront Tactics, and a stunning War of Thrones RTS. Let’s dive into the 20 best strategy games you should add to your wishlist for 2026 and 2027 – you won’t want to miss this!
20 – Systemic War

Systemic War is an ambitious RTS and grand strategy game where you lead a nation from 2008 to 2025. It feels reminiscent of Imperial Glory, blending turn-based strategy with real-time battles on a world map. However, instead of a vast, open world, Systemic War will feature 25 detailed, handcrafted maps. What’s really interesting is the game’s approach to the strategic map – it uses actual rail and road networks instead of traditional regions, which is a unique idea. While it’s hard to say exactly how this will play out, it’s great to see the developers trying something new. Systemic War is currently slated for release in the fourth quarter of 2026.
19 – Corsair Cove

The creators of the Tropico series are working on a new game called Corsair Cove, a pirate base-building simulator published by Hooded Horse. Currently, that’s all the information available, with a planned release in 2026. Players will begin with just a shipwreck and must use the island’s limited space and resources to construct a thriving pirate fort. The game will feature a unique building system using elevated pathways, ziplines, and bridges to maximize space. Once established, players will build a navy to explore and dominate the seas in turn-based battles. This naval combat aspect is particularly intriguing and I’m eager to learn more about it, even more so than the city-building itself.
18 – Dust Front RTS

I always check out the animations whenever new footage of Dust Front RTS is released. I’ve said it before, but the game truly has some of the best animation I’ve ever seen in a strategy game – it just looks incredibly polished and refined, something you rarely see. Beyond the visuals, Dust Front is a solid real-time strategy game with large-scale strategic gameplay, set on a post-apocalyptic Earth ravaged by endless wars. It’s not just about battles, though; the game will also feature a dynamic campaign with a global map, where you’ll manage your economy, technology, and production. We know the enemies will include mutants, robots, and rebels, but details are still limited. While there’s no firm release date yet, considering how far along development is, I expect it to launch sometime in late 2026 or early 2027.
17 – Fields of History

I was wondering if I should showcase Fields of History or Gilded History in this one, and given the fact that I have done so several times before with the latter, and it still hasn’t come out, let me show you this real-time grand-strategy game in the vein of Hearts of Iron, being published by MicroProse, and set during the First World War. Set to feature 10.000 provinces, a political system with all the major political head honchos, historical events, a production system, a global economy, and of course, military action, Fields of History is going to be a game for those players who wish that the Hearts of Iron series could explore the First of the two largest wars in Human History. The game might look like an indie version of HoI, but I’m excited for it. We don’t have enough World War 1 games.
16 – Sanctuary: Shattered Sun
Sanctuary: Shattered Sun is a promising new real-time strategy game, similar to Supreme Commander. Players will command huge armies, but what really sets it apart is how the environment itself becomes a key part of the strategy. You can reshape the land – build on it, destroy it, even cut off sections entirely, forcing players to rely on air units. You can also freeze rivers and oceans, creating new paths or blocking entire fleets. While the idea of a dynamic battlefield isn’t brand new, it’s exciting to see developers revisiting the epic scale of games like Supreme Commander. If it includes a good single-player story, I’m definitely planning to play through the whole thing.
