Witch Hat Atelier is shaping up to be the standout anime of Spring 2026. Even after just three episodes, it’s clear this series is exceptional. While the story is still unfolding, the animation is truly stunning. Produced by Bug Films, Witch Hat Atelier has quickly captivated audiences with its gorgeous visuals – it’s a show best experienced on a larger screen.
I’ve watched the first three episodes of Witch Hat Atelier, and the animation is looking fantastic – there don’t seem to be any quality concerns there. I know some people were worried about how the story would translate, but it’s based on a well-regarded manga. In fact, the manga currently ranks 44th on MyAnimeList, which is higher than some incredibly popular series like Death Note, Gintama, Chainsaw Man, Dragon Ball, and Dandadan. That suggests the story itself should be pretty strong, too.

Witch Hat Atelier centers around Coco, a girl with a lifelong fascination with magic. She once thought becoming a mage was an impossible dream, but that changes when she discovers the reality behind it. This newfound knowledge comes at a cost, though, as Coco’s innocence leads to a painful loss. The series is full of dramatic and suspenseful moments that will keep you engaged, but it also balances those with plenty of heartwarming and funny scenes.
While Witch Hat Atelier is a standout anime, it’s important to remember that many other great shows are coming out this spring. In fact, the Spring 2024 season looks particularly strong, with several highly anticipated titles set to premiere.

Steel Ball Run Would Have Been The Best Anime Of The Year
Had Netflix handled the release of Steel Ball Run better, it likely would have been a strong contender for both the best anime of Spring 2026 and the best anime of the entire year. Fans were eagerly anticipating its arrival after a long wait.
The first episode launched to very positive feedback from audiences. It briefly became more popular than ‘Frieren,’ which sparked a wave of negative reviews as fans of both shows argued online.
The initial backlash from negative reviews was quickly forgotten when fans became frustrated with how slowly Netflix was releasing information about Steel Ball Run. After days of silence, Netflix finally released a trailer for the second episode, but still didn’t announce when it would actually be available. This led fans to flood Netflix’s social media with questions and complaints. Eventually, Netflix responded, confirming Steel Ball Run would premiere sometime in 2026. They also announced that new episodes would be released weekly, but the anime would be broken up into several parts.
