The Warhammer Skulls video game festival is now live on Steam! It’s the event’s 10th anniversary, and there are huge discounts on games set in the Warhammer universes – whether you’re a longtime fan, curious about the sci-fi world of Warhammer 40,000, or interested in the fantasy setting of The Old World, it’s worth checking out.
I’m a big fan of these games, so I wanted to quickly share a few that I think you should check out. If you’re looking for a more detailed breakdown, I’ve also put together a list of my top Warhammer games for 2026!
Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector – $11.99
Despite the many Warhammer games released over the past twenty years, a good turn-based strategy game was surprisingly missing until Battlesector came out in 2022. Thankfully, Slitherine developed Battlesector, and it’s now considered the best turn-based strategy game in the entire Warhammer series. It features all the major factions and units fans know from the tabletop game, a compelling single-player campaign, impressive visuals, a thriving multiplayer community, and ongoing support from the developers – they even just added the Ultramarines!
Space Marine 2 – $17.99
If you find strategy games too slow-paced and prefer direct combat, the Space Marine and Space Marine 2 games are excellent choices. You play as Captain Titus of the Ultramarines, battling endless waves of Orks and Tyranids with powerful guns and chainswords. The combat feels great, and the story is surprisingly engaging with unexpected twists and escalating stakes. I personally love these games – I’m a big fan of what’s been dubbed ‘The Xbox Shooter’: fast-paced, over-the-top third-person action with a focus on powerful characters and impressive armor. Don’t judge my taste!
Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters – $4.49
Imagine the gameplay of XCOM and XCOM 2, but set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Instead of XCOM soldiers, you command Grey Knight Space Marines fighting against the forces of Nurgle. That’s Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters, a brilliant turn-based strategy game, and it’s an incredible value at under $5. It’s likely the best bargain you’ll find anywhere.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Definitive Edition – $17.99
The original Dawn of War remains a beloved real-time strategy game for many fans, often considered the best in the series. Though I missed it when it first launched in 2004, the 2025 Definitive Edition gave me the opportunity to experience it, and I absolutely loved it. It’s truly one of the all-time greats, and the Definitive Edition’s visual improvements and quality-of-life changes make it even more enjoyable.
