Currently, if you visit Steam, you’ll find that the initial launch version of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion takes up approximately 4.9 GB of space.
At the moment, someone has leaked details about the file size of the Oblivion remaster, which stands at an impressive 120 GB. This is significantly larger than the initial game.
If you find the file sizes of contemporary video games frustrating, you might not find much comfort in Bethesda’s upcoming project. This isn’t a new game but rather an old one with a modern twist – which could necessitate removing other games from your system to accommodate Oblivion.

Information about this leak originates from X0X_Leaks on platform X, where it has sparked frustrated reactions among fans.
“Khajiit has no words.” Writes one user on Reddit.
As a fellow enthusiast, I’m guessing that a mere texture upgrade might account for around 35-40 GB. However, with over 100 GB on the line, it seems we’re looking at a ground-up remake instead!
The Enhanced Edition of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion boasts a substantial game size and an extensive title, outweighing the 75 GB file size of Avowed, though it falls short compared to Baldur’s Gate 3’s 150 GB.
For different individuals, the file size might not necessarily be a major concern, but generally speaking, it could be mildly inconvenient for many.
The Oblivion Remaster May Use Unreal Engine 5
It’s thought that The Oblivion Remaster might be built using Unreal Engine 5, which could account for its substantial file size. Despite its impressive capabilities (many studios are drawn to it for good reason), the engine has faced challenges in previous games.
Bethesda has unveiled a major live-stream event for their upcoming project, although details about the broadcast are scarce. However, there’s a strong chance they might disclose the launch date during this event, potentially even encouraging us to start playing it immediately.
Although information about Unreal Engine 5’s influence on the Oblivion remaster is spreading rapidly, it won’t be until we actually play it that we can truly understand its impact. A tantalizing trailer may not reveal the game’s flaws – unlike in a Pokémon game, where every creature has its strengths and weaknesses.
It’s uncertain whether UE5 is the preferred engine for their project by Bethesda, but we might find out more during tomorrow’s livestream at 11am EST.
