The Most IntelligentDragon Ball Characters, Ranked

As a seasoned gamer and die-hard Dragon Ball fan who’s been following the franchise since its inception, I’ve always been intrigued by the characters that stand out due to their intellect rather than brute strength. And let me tell you, the smartest Dragon Ball character is none other than our very own Bulma!

In the enduring saga of Dragon Ball, muscle power is usually lauded over intellectual prowess, but clever characters undeniably hold significant weight. The most intelligent characters in this series have reshaped the world with their groundbreaking ideas and inventions, often outperforming even the main characters.

It isn’t simple to identify which Dragon Ball character is the smartest, as the potential frontrunners excel in diverse areas. Some of these characters may not be considered geniuses, but their talent for strategy and outsmarting opponents can provide them an advantage in combat even when they seem to be at a disadvantage.

On the given list, we’ll exclude characters who possess an all-knowing or divine intelligence, because understanding everything isn’t the same as discovering things on your own.

5 Cell

Cell is a Master Manipulator

Without a doubt, Frieza stands out as the most formidable Dragon Ball antagonist; however, it’s Cell who demonstrates the greatest intellect among them. Unlike Frieza, who often fails to comprehend his own defeat, Cell has the ability to analyze and control his adversaries, thus gaining an advantage. This is evident in multiple instances, such as when he persuades Vegeta to allow him to reach his ultimate form, a decision that almost leads to Vegeta’s downfall.

In the end, it’s Cell’s overconfidence that caused his downfall, as he missed the opportunity to defeat the Z Fighters completely. However, considering that his objective was to attain perfection and establish himself as the most powerful fighter in the cosmos, the Cell Games were quite logical. It’s worth noting that Super Buu also deserves special recognition for managing to deceive the Z Fighters not once, but twice, ultimately absorbing Gotenks, Piccolo, and Gohan.

4 Future Trunks

Trunks Understands that All Actions have Consequences

In general, Saiyans aren’t known for their intelligence, but among half-Saiyans, some can still be quite intelligent. Gohan, in his adult years, is more interested in scholarship than fighting, although Trunks might be considered the most intelligent Saiyan overall.

Trunks excels at anticipating his adversaries and always treats potential hazards with due caution, unlike Goku, Vegeta, or Gohan. Unlike them, he prioritizes swiftly neutralizing threats over showcasing fighting skills, and he’s decisive about taking action when necessary. Additionally, being part of the Briefs family, possibly having contributed to the development of the time machine, seems to have given him an advantage in this situation.

3 Dr. Brief

Dr. Brief is a Brilliant Inventor

Dr. Brief, the inventor of Capsule Corporation, is a strong candidate for the title of the wisest character in Dragon Ball. His capsule technology is nothing short of amazing and has significantly improved the lives of people on Earth, earning him both wealth and recognition from his colleagues and fellow humans. Furthermore, he constructed the spaceship that transported Goku to Namek, among other impressive projects.

Through the various Dragon Ball series and the countless galaxies and universes they’ve traversed, it’s challenging to imagine a planet more technologically advanced than Earth, with a significant portion of this achievement owed to Dr. Brief. Yet, his most remarkable creation could be said to be his daughter, who stands among a small group of individuals that surpass Dr. Brief in intelligence.

2 Dr. Gero

Dr. Gero is an Evil Genius

As a gamer, I find it challenging to decide who’s the smarter one between Dr. Brief and Dr. Gero since they work in distinct realms, but there’s a compelling case for Dr. Gero being the more brilliant mind. The androids and Cell, creations of Dr. Gero, are undeniably more awe-inspiring than anything Dr. Brief has ever produced. What makes it even more impressive is that he managed to bring them to life in a cave with significantly fewer resources compared to Dr. Brief’s lab setup.

Based on how he responded to their blueprints, it seems there are aspects of the android designs that even Dr Brief finds baffling, which makes Gero appear more skilled in this regard. However, his inability to manage his inventions and his intense dislike for Goku, culminating in his demise, prevent him from being regarded as the smartest character in the Dragon Ball series.

1 Bulma

Bulma is the Smartest Character in Dragon Ball

In the expansion of the franchise, Bulma’s role has significantly expanded as well. Through her proven skills in repairing and piloting various spaceships throughout the years, she takes it a step further; constructing the first and only known time machine within the Dragon Ball universe at that particular moment. Although other time machines are mentioned later in Dragon Ball Super, viewers never get to witness any of them in action.

In addition to creating Dragon Ball, Bulma is responsible for designing the Dragon Ball radar – a device that has played a crucial role in numerous situations throughout the series. Its importance can’t be understated, as without it, many of the Z-fighters might not have survived and Earth may have been devastated when Nappa and Vegeta arrived. Thus, both the significance of the radar and Bulma’s contribution to the series should never be overlooked.
