Netflix will release a brand new One Piece anime in February 2027. Created by Wit Studio, the team behind Attack on Titan, this remake of Eiichiro Oda’s popular manga will have a first season of 7 episodes, each lasting 40 minutes. The new series promises a more accurate and faster-paced adaptation of the story compared to the original One Piece anime by Toei Animation.
Netflix has announced that a live-action One Piece series will premiere in February 2027. The first season will consist of seven episodes, each lasting about 40 minutes, for a total runtime of 5 hours. These episodes will adapt approximately 50 chapters of the manga, covering the entire East Blue saga – from Luffy’s departure from Foosha Village up to his encounter with Sanji at the Baratie restaurant. All seven episodes will be released on Netflix at the same time.
The team is working on a new version of One Piece, aiming to make it more accessible for new fans who enjoyed the recent live-action show on Netflix. While it’s unclear how much of the series will be redone, the goal is to create a streamlined version of the story – removing unnecessary episodes and improving the animation – that stays truer to the original plot. This should make the 1000+ episode anime less intimidating for those just discovering the series.
Okay, so awesome news for One Piece fans! Netflix just confirmed they’re making season 3 of the live-action show, and it’s going to cover the Alabasta arc. I was super excited to hear they’ve cast Joe Manganiello as Crocodile – he actually had a little cameo in season 2, so it’s cool to see him coming back as the main bad guy for this arc!
As a One Piece fan, I’m really excited about Wit Studio taking on the series! I think this remake is a perfect way for new viewers to get into the story without being intimidated by how long the original anime is, or dealing with some of its slower parts. I’m really hoping they plan to adapt the entire manga this time around – that would be amazing!
