In the upcoming months, Marvel Studios will unveil their next blockbuster titled “Thunderbolts” following the release of “Captain America: Brave New World.” Recently, the first glimpse of Lewis Pullman portraying The Sentry in the movie has been shared by Funko Pops.

In January 2024, actor Daniel Pullman became part of the Thunderbolts team, taking over a role previously held by Steven Yeun who had to leave due to scheduling issues. Initially, Yeun was set to embody the character of Sentry, according to various reports. With Yeun’s departure, speculations arose that Pullman might play Sentry as well, given their similar character names – “Bob.” Supporting this theory, leaked Funko Pop figures showed Pullman’s first appearance as Sentry, also revealing his likeness as Robert “Bob” Reynolds, the known alias of Sentry.

A picture of the Thunderbolts Funko Pop collection was posted on Instagram, showcasing Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, David Harbour’s Red Guardian, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, Wyatt Russell’s John Walker, and Pullman’s Sentry. The attention was particularly drawn to the Sentry Funko Pop due to his unique appearance as this was the first glimpse of him in the role. In the trailer, he didn’t appear dressed like this. The Sentry Funko Pop is adorned in a bright yellow bodysuit with dark blue accents, paired with a flowing blue cape and a thick blue belt bearing the “S” emblem at its center, symbolizing his identity as Sentry. He also wears a pair of blue boots, and his long blonde hair adds to his mythical, god-like persona.

The appearance of Sentry on online platforms sparked various responses from fans. One enthusiast expressed their appreciation for Sentry’s look with a series of fire emojis, while another hoped the on-screen costume would match exactly in the upcoming film. A different social media user even suggested Lego sets and a miniature Sentry figure. The Funko Pop not only provided fans with Pullman’s first official glimpse as Sentry but also verified the speculation that he was portraying Sentry in the film. In a prior interview, Pullman mentioned that his role in Thunderbolts* remained enigmatic, even to him, when discussing it. “I was just as surprised as everyone else about what’s happening with my character, Bob,” he hinted, according to People. “It’s all a mystery,” he added cryptically. He also mentioned that he wasn’t present during the editing process and shared the same eagerness as others to view the final product.

*Thunderbolts is the name of a team in Marvel Comics, which Pullman’s character is rumored to be part of in the upcoming film.

It’s widely speculated that actor J.K. Simmons, who plays the character named “Bob” in the upcoming Marvel film, will portray Sentry. This assumption arises from the fact that Bob shares a name with Robert Reynolds, Sentry’s real identity, and exhibits invulnerability, similar to Sentry’s powers. Known for his god-like strength, some compare Sentry to Superman due to his super strength, flight capabilities, near-invincibility, and energy manipulation. However, he also battles with a dark persona called The Void, symbolizing his internal struggles. Given Sentry’s potential as a powerful character, similar to Thor or the Hulk, it makes sense that Marvel Studios is keeping details about him confidential to avoid spoilers.
