Top 13 Demon Weapons in Soul Eater Anime and Manga (Ranked)

Many fans agree that the Soul Eater manga is much better than its anime adaptation, and this difference is a common complaint. Within the series, Excalibur stands out as the most powerful and legendary Demon Weapon ever created, both in the manga and the anime. No other weapon comes close to matching his strength—even Death Scythes respect his power, and Excalibur never lets anyone forget it.

Certain weapons in Soul Eater are so powerful they prove why the series is a strong alternative to Demon Slayer, and might even challenge the best weapon in Demon Slayer for the top spot. Let’s see how these weapons stack up as we rank them and consider if any could truly become number one.

13. Dengu Dinga

The Rainbow Battleaxe

Sometimes, simplicity is key, and Dengu Dinga’s weapon form, while not overwhelmingly powerful, is a solid foundation. As a Death Scythe, people expect him to be a strong Demon Weapon, but his potential isn’t immediately obvious. Unfortunately, the story doesn’t fully develop Dengu Dinga’s abilities, leaving fans wondering just how strong he could be.

Dengu Dinga’s Demon Weapon form turns him into a simple battleaxe capable of reflecting light and lasers. He can also use rainbows to slice through objects. While these powers are helpful, particularly during the “War on the Moon” arc in the Soul Eater manga, he’s ultimately defeated by powerful enemies. This defeat demonstrates that Dengu Dinga isn’t as strong as some of the other Demon Weapons.

12. Jinn Galland

The Magical Death Genie Lamp

Jinn Galland is a powerful Death Scythe, but how he stacks up against other Death Scythes is questionable. Like Dengu Dinga, he doesn’t appear in the anime, which instead tells a different story that can be confusing if you haven’t read the manga. It’s an anime that really relies on the manga for context.

Jinn Galland’s weapon form is definitely one of the most unusual in the manga. He transforms into a magic genie lamp, and when his meister rubs it, smoke appears. This smoke then allows his soul to manifest in various fighting forms.

Although he’s powerful, Jinn Galland can only take on three forms: The Tower, The Djinn, and The Lovers. Interestingly, his ability to transform into a weapon is also a drawback – when he’s a lamp, he needs his meister to use his smoke abilities. While he appears helpful during the War on the Moon storyline, he doesn’t offer much beyond that.

11. Tsar Pushka

The Anti-Demon Cannonball

Similar to Jinn Galland, Tsar Pushka is a relatively minor character in a popular anime, despite being memorable. Although he isn’t one of the strongest Death Scythes, his weapon form is powerful when needed. He’s especially important during the Mad Blood storyline because of his ability to detect demons, and his strategic thinking helps him and his partner use this ability effectively.

Tsar Pushka’s weapon form lets him transform into a massive cannonball that can be launched from his body. He can also attach to his partner’s arms or legs and then fire himself off like a projectile. This technique proves especially difficult for Crona during the Mad Blood arc, as Tsar Pushka combines it with the fighting skills of his partner, Feodor.

Unfortunately, the manga doesn’t reveal much more about how powerful Tsar Pushka is. Both he and his wielder are defeated by Crona. However, because the Soul Eater anime often deviates from the original story, this entire arc isn’t included in the animated series.

10. Elizabeth “Liz” Thompson and Patrcia “Patty” Thompson

The Fastest Gunslinger Sisters This Side of Brooklyn

Liz and Patty aren’t Death Scythes, but they’re the weapons Death the Kid prefers to use. Kid is obsessed with symmetry, and he loves that he can wield two identical Beretta M9 pistols at once. They transform into Demon Weapons, making them a perfect match for one of the best dual-wielding characters in anime, and ultimately the second strongest meister in the series.

Initially, their abilities seem like a simple “point and shoot” system, but these fighters are actually quite complex. Beyond being skilled in hand-to-hand combat and accurate with firearms, they receive a significant power increase from their Shinigami partner and have an endless supply of ammunition. Furthermore, the sisters can transform into gun forms for each other, adding another layer to their capabilities.

9. Azusa Yumi

The Sniper Death Scythe With a Good Eye

Azusa is a powerful Demon Weapon shaped like a unique gun – a combination of a crossbow and sniper rifle. While such a weapon might not be very practical in real life, she’s a serious threat in the world of Soul Eater. Asura can attest to this, having been shot by Azusa on several occasions, proving her incredible accuracy and skill.

Azusa possesses a unique set of skills, including the ability to communicate with others over long distances using devices like radios and phones – a talent called telesynchronization. She’s also an incredibly skilled fighter with enhanced speed and pinpoint accuracy. What truly makes her dangerous is her Thousand-Mile Eyes ability, which boosts her shooting, tracking, and overall analytical skills, making her a formidable opponent.

8. Tezca Tlipoca

The Mirror Man Who Cheats Death

Tezca initially seems like a strange and quirky character. But beneath his unusual appearance and animal mask, he wields a remarkably powerful weapon – a Death Scythe. His Demon Weapon, which takes the form of a mirror, demonstrates that even seemingly harmless objects can be incredibly dangerous when used by someone skilled – or in Tezca’s case, a monkey.

I’ve been studying Tezca, and it’s fascinating how his connection to a monkey meister unlocks these incredible mirror-based powers. What really stands out is his ability to exist without a body. Honestly, if they’d included him in the Soul Eater anime, I think it would have easily become one of the best shows dealing with the idea of death not being the end. He essentially becomes a living soul trapped inside his mirror, which is a really clever way to cheat death itself.

Tezca also has a unique weapon form that acts like a mirror, allowing him to track individuals, reveal someone’s inner guilt, and create convincing illusions. While these powers are mainly defensive, Tezca can also use a powerful attack called Solar Ray, which he uses to seriously injure Justin Law.

7. Justin Law

The Prodigious Executioner Who Loses Himself

In the anime, Justin Law gains his power from a strong belief in order and his loyalty to Lord Death. As a particularly intimidating Death Scythe, he transforms into a guillotine to capture opponents before executing them. While this weapon form is limited by its fixed position, Justin Law compensates with a range of clever traps.

The manga version of the character Justin Law differs significantly from his anime counterpart, as he descends into insanity due to Asura’s manipulation. This change unlocks new powers for his weapon form, including increased toughness, chain blades, and a powerful new form gained by fusing with a clown while in a mad state. These abilities make him a formidable enemy during the manga’s climactic events.

6. Marie Mjolnir

The Living Embodiment of Mjolnir

The Demon Weapon Marie Mjolnir is a powerful addition to our ranking, and lives up to the name of Thor’s hammer. Like Mjolnir, she excels at crushing opponents with her Demon Hammer form. Fans of Thor who enjoy anime and manga might find Marie Mjolnir an interesting take on the character, especially those who feel Thor deserves more animated adaptations.

I’ve noticed Marie is a much more capable fighter in the manga than her anime portrayal suggests – she really shines! It’s pretty impressive that she managed to defeat Justin Law, the Death Scythe prodigy, especially since he becomes a villain in the manga, and she did it with some help from Franken Stein. What’s even more interesting is that Marie’s healing abilities seem to balance out Franken Stein’s own descent into madness; her power acts like a stabilizer for him, keeping things under control.

5. Ragnarok

The Demon Sword Trying To Submerge the World in Black Blood

Anime often features elements of Norse mythology, and Ragnarok is a particularly strong and unusual Demon Weapon. Unlike most, Ragnarok wasn’t created in the typical way – it was formed from Black Blood and merged with a human. Even without a physical body, Ragnarok is a deadly weapon, especially when wielded by its meister, Crona, as it exists within their body.

There are definite advantages to being a living, liquid sword. In the manga, Ragnarok constantly grows stronger and gains new shapeshifting abilities each time he consumes a soul. Eventually, he can even transform into a dragon, which grants Crona the power of flight. Unfortunately, the anime adaptation doesn’t show Ragnarok’s evolution and increasing power from absorbing others.

Black Blood unlocks a frightening new ability for Ragnarok called Scream Resonance, which can seriously harm Demon Weapons – Soul Eater Evans felt its effects like a terrible headache. The manga takes this power even further with Triple Scream Resonance, achieved after Ragnarok’s fusion with the Black Clown. This transformation is so unsettling it would have easily been one of the scariest clown moments in anime if Soul Eater had included it.

4. Soul “Eater” Evans

The Coolest Pianist To Become a Death Scythe

Soul Evans is the final Death Scythe ever created, and he’s incredibly powerful. This is primarily shown in the Soul Eater manga. What sets the manga version of Soul apart is how his weapon form develops into a highly advanced fighting tool when he becomes a Death Scythe.

Soul Evans combines his piano skills with the abilities of his weapon form, creating a special “Keyboard form.” This allows him to disrupt the souls of his enemies and protect his allies. Had the manga been fully adapted into an anime, this transformation would have been considered one of the best in the shonen genre. With this new form, Soul also gains the ability to act as his own Meister, a powerful and independent skill.

Ultimately, Soul Evans’ greatest strength comes from his close partnership with his meister, Maka, and the manga highlights the emotional connection between them. Though both struggle with Madness, they can help each other overcome it when they’re truly in sync. Maka can suppress Soul’s madness, and Soul, in turn, can enhance Maka’s spiritual awareness.
