I’m a huge fan of these games because they let you live a different life – whether it’s doing everyday things in a beautiful virtual world or protecting a city made of blocks. What’s great about open-world games is that you can play at your own speed. You don’t always have to interact with other characters to move the story forward, which leaves you free to explore and take on side quests.

May 2026 is shaping up to be an exciting month for open-world game enthusiasts! Several new titles are set to launch, from highly anticipated sequels to fresh indie games. It’s a mix of light puzzles, building, and survival elements – think a much more relaxed experience than RV There Yet! It’s ideal for a casual gaming session with up to three friends.

You begin with a simple campervan and travel the globe, building your ideal mobile home. You’ll set up campfires, find plans for improvements, and add upgrades along the way. One of the best parts was having a friend drive while I relaxed on the roof, taking care of my garden! Just be careful not to overload your van – if you carry too much, you’ll move incredibly slowly and risk getting stranded with no supplies. I may or may not be speaking from personal experience…

3. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight (May 22)

An Essential Addition To Everyone’s Library

If you’re excited to explore the huge open world of Gotham City as Batman, you’re not alone! Many players are looking forward to the release of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. You can now pre-order the game on Steam – the standard edition costs $69.99, and the deluxe edition is $89.99. If you choose the deluxe edition, you’ll get to start playing three days early for an exclusive experience.

In LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, players experience Bruce Wayne’s transformation into Batman. The game features a revamped combat system and an open world where you’ll actively uncover crimes. Locations like Arkham Asylum hold clues to help you solve mysteries. I’ve been eagerly awaiting Paralives for years, as a huge fan of The Sims. Like many Sims players, I’m both excited and a little nervous about a life simulation game that lets you freely explore an open world. Will it be good enough to replace The Sims as my go-to? Paralives is launching as an early access game on Steam on May 25th, 2026, and I can finally add it to my collection!

If you enjoy relaxing gameplay with a touch of risk, and the chance to live out fantasies you couldn’t in real life, Paralives is definitely worth checking out. You can build a life for your family, develop your character, and truly interact with the world around you. What I find most appealing is the level of detail – being able to engage with almost everything you see. It’s incredibly immersive, and it’s disappointing when something looks interactive but isn’t – like a charming market stall that’s just for show.

Spacecraft is a story-rich adventure game where you’ll explore planets, gather resources, and build a base. You can even move your base to a new planet if you find a better location – I’d definitely look for one with adorable animals! To survive, you’ll need to craft items, mine for resources, and complete successful space flights. Upgrading your ship is also crucial for defending against space pirates. If you enjoy realistic space exploration with complex galactic politics and powerful corporations, Spacecraft is the game for you.
