In the year 2024, the sequel to Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, titled simply as Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, was one of the most triumphant stories in gaming. Launched more than a decade following its precursor, this game garnered widespread acclaim from critics and captivated over six million players within its initial months on the market. Its remarkable success even led to significant nominations such as Best Action Game and Best Multiplayer at The Game Awards 2024.
The remarkable success of the game undeniably brings positive consequences for Saber Interactive, making them even more sought-after in the development industry. This increased demand is already evident, as rumors suggest that Saber Interactive is currently developing a new game based on a prominent intellectual property (IP) owned by Hasbro, one of the leading toy and entertainment companies. Given Hasbro’s extensive library of IP, it’s highly plausible that their next project will be centered around one of their most iconic and versatile franchises: Transformers.
Saber Interactive’s Hasbro Collaboration Should Transform And Roll Out
Transformers Hasn’t Had A Major New Game In A Long Time
It’s significant to note that despite the Transformers franchise being a major player in Hasbro’s collection, it has been quite some time since a completely new game was developed for this series. Unlike earlier, when games were produced for the first three films directed by Michael Bay, movie-based tie-ins are less common today in the gaming industry. Interestingly, none of the four live-action Transformers films released since 2014 have had their own movie tie-in games, except perhaps 2014’s Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark, which was part of the Transformers: Cybertron series and also incorporated elements from the live-action film series.
So far, the most significant Transformers game released across various platforms was Transformers: Devastation in 2015, developed by PlatinumGames and published by Activision. Smaller Transformers games from Outright Games have appeared since then, but a high-profile Transformers game hasn’t been produced since Devastation. Saber Interactive now has the ideal chance to develop a new Transformers game that showcases the franchise’s full potential and proves it is indeed more than meets the eye.
Transformers One Could Be The Blueprint For A New Game
Saber Interactive has an excellent opportunity to dive into the Transformers universe, as the franchise recently released a highly praised new film titled “Transformers One” in 2024. This CGI-animated movie acted as the origin story for Optimus Prime and Megatron, characters fans have grown to love. It was one of the standout animated films of 2024 and a must-watch for longtime enthusiasts of the Transformers legacy.
Indeed, it’s important to note that the movie didn’t do as well financially as expected, leading Hasbro to decide they wouldn’t co-fund films based on their properties anymore, leaving production to other studios. Yet, there’s optimism for a sequel to this film, and a new game could serve as an excellent platform for that continuation. Additionally, transitioning the story of Transformers One into another format could breathe new life into the movie after its theatrical run and potentially attract a broader audience than it had in cinemas.
As a dedicated enthusiast, I can’t help but envision myself stepping into the shoes of a developer, given the ideal chance to craft a groundbreaking Transformers game that vividly demonstrates the depth and complexity of this iconic franchise – far beyond its initial appearances.
Transformers’ Versatility Makes It Perfect For A Video Game
Among all of Hasbro’s intellectual properties, the Transformers franchise seems particularly well-suited for a video game adaptation. It boasts versatility across various media forms such as films, TV shows, games, and toys, while managing to capture the interest of both children and adults. Additionally, the Transformers series is known for its action-packed content, which aligns perfectly with Saber Interactive’s background in creating action games, following their work on Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2.
It’s not clear which intellectual property (IP) Saber Interactive’s upcoming game is based on, as neither Saber nor Hasbro have confirmed. However, given Saber’s past success with the Transformers series, it seems plausible that they might be bringing back the franchise in a big way with a fresh title. Here’s to hoping their new game will make a grand comeback and reestablish Transformers as a significant player in the gaming industry.
