Twitter is Down Right Now

Starting early on February 16th, Twitter experienced a major outage, preventing many users from accessing the site on computers or phones. While a few people might still be able to get on, reports of problems increased dramatically – by over 270,000 percent.

I noticed Twitter was down this morning around 7:22 am Central Time when I checked Downdetector and saw a huge surge in people reporting problems. Normally, there are only about 15 reports, but it jumped to over 42,000 in just fifteen minutes! As of right now, there’s no word on when it will be back up, but I’m keeping an eye on things and will update this as soon as Twitter is working again.

Many Twitter users are currently experiencing problems with the app, including issues with comments, messages, their feeds, logging in, posting, connecting to the servers, and accessing the website. Essentially, Twitter is down. While users are noticing the problems themselves, Downdetector confirms this is a widespread outage, not just a localized one.

Downdetector monitors potential issues with companies by tracking user reports and status updates. It shows how many people are experiencing problems with a website or service in real-time, updating by the minute and hour. A sudden increase in reports usually means there’s an outage, and the size of the increase indicates how widespread the problem is. Users can submit reports and specify the type of issue they’re having.

Honestly, I’m still waiting to see how long this Twitter outage will last. Usually, these things get fixed pretty quickly – within minutes or an hour, maybe. But sometimes, depending on what’s causing the problem, they can drag on. What’s really frustrating is that neither Twitter nor Elon Musk has said anything about it yet, so we’re all just in the dark.
