Ubisoft Teases Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Ending Changes and More

According to a top developer at Ubisoft, the upcoming remake, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, will feature a slightly altered ending compared to the original game. Although the remake will follow the same main storyline, it will expand upon and change certain parts of the ending from Assassin’s Creed 4.

After more than a year of anticipation, Ubisoft officially unveiled Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced in late April 2026. They positioned the game not as a simple remake, but as an updated version of the 2013 classic. It keeps the most beloved parts of the original while improving or completely changing elements that haven’t held up well over time. For example, the remake removes the sections where you play as a modern-day employee at Abstergo, focusing the story more on Edward Kenway. However, the connection to the Animus remains through optional ‘rift’ sequences.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Will Include New Ending Chapter

So, I was reading up on Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, and it sounds like we won’t be playing any of the modern-day stuff this time around. But the developers at Ubisoft Singapore aren’t just retreading old ground – they’re planning to build on the original story in cool ways. Paul Fu, the Creative Director, told Game File that they’re adding a whole new endgame chapter called “A World Without Gold.” That phrase should ring a bell for anyone who played Assassin’s Creed 4 – it’s from one of the last things Edward Kenway says!

Assassin’s Creed 4 Lead Writer Wrote a New Ending Scene for Black Flag Resynced

Fu announced that Black Flag Resynced will include a brand new ending scene penned by Darby McDevitt, who wrote both the original game and the remake. While staying tight-lipped on details, he mentioned the scene will offer a glimpse into a key character’s emotional backstory, which is fully revealed at the end of the original game. Players of the 2013 version will likely recognize this as a scene that takes place before the final mission of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag. The recently revealed “A World Without Gold” chapter seems like the most probable location for this addition.

How far the ending changes will go remains unclear, though Ubisoft has repeatedly indicated that the remake will preserve the original game’s main narrative beats. Its approach to gameplay appears similar: Ubisoft has expanded and remixed the original map with new material while reshuffling some existing content, including collectibles. For example, while playing Ubisoft’s recent hands-on demo of Black Flag Resynced, Totilo found the Tabulae Rudolphinae book where the Voynich Manuscript appeared in the original Assassin’s Creed 4. Both collectibles were already present in the 2013 game, but in different locations. Other takeaways from the demo include a shanty selector, whereas the original only allowed songs to be skipped; a rescue mission that rewards completion with a recruitable crewmember, Lucy Baldwin, who can boost the ship’s damage-bracing defenses; and 15 collectible messages referencing a mysterious faction called “The Watchers.”

A remastered version of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, titled Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on July 9, 2026. Players can buy it separately or access it through a Ubisoft+ subscription on PC. Following this remake, Ubisoft plans to release Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe, the next major installment in the series, which is anticipated to be set in 16th-century Holy Roman Empire. There are also reports that Ubisoft is developing a remake of the very first Assassin’s Creed game.
