Summary
- UFC 5 players need specialized fighters with clear weaknesses, facing powerful divisions.
- Combat spam players by making a specialized yet strong fighter with proper point distribution.
- For BJJ builds, prioritize striking for submissions; leverage perks for stamina advantage.
In UFC 5, it can be extremely annoying to construct a character, particularly when you have a low reputation, as your fighter will likely be excessively specialized or possess noticeable flaws. Additionally, you must recognize that opponents in the lighter weight classes are often creating characters that emulate Shamil Gaziev’s appearance but move like Conor McGregor at his peak, which is no easy feat. It’s undeniably challenging.
Although it’s possible to have players who focus solely on boosting their punching power or engage in spamming tactics, there are strategies to create a balanced, specialized fighter. Here’s a guide to help you determine the right point distribution, understand what to prioritize, and identify areas for adjustment. We’ll also examine the characteristics of each build, including perks, optimal postures, advantages, and disadvantages.
This way, players can develop fighters that excel in specific areas while still maintaining overall strength.
4. Brazilian Jiu-jitsu
Submissions – Charles Oliveira Posture
Perks | Description |
Like Glue | Initiates, advances, and counters more easily when grappling on the feet. |
Crafty | Improved submission defense in bottom positions. |
Nightmare | Boosts a fighter’s Grapple Defense whenever they are in a bottom ground position. |
Work Horse | Uses less stamina when grappling on the ground. |
Out The Gates | Strikes consume less stamina during rounds 1 and 2. |
In UFC 5, this character excels in various forms of takedowns, strikes, and submissions – a versatile fighter indeed! The game’s submission routes are abundant, whether on the ground, standing, or even mid-air, making Brazilian Jiu-jitsu feel more vibrant than ever. Investing in striking keeps you agile on your feet, ready to end it there if necessary. Perks like ‘Like Glue’, ‘Crafty’, ‘Nightmare’, ‘Work Horse’, and ‘Out The Gate’ enable early pressure, dominance in wrestling exchanges, and the enforcement of submission strategies, while resisting the submissions of opponents. Fights can be ended by chaining submissions, but it’s easier to win via submission when you have better stamina. This can be achieved by focusing on body attacks and preventing transitions. However, this build requires a considerable number of evolution points. Some aspects, like ground striking, may be sacrificed to reduce the cost.
Strengths
- Well-rounded: Players with this build can wrestle, submit, and strike.
- BJJ/Takedown Defense: This builds bread-and-butter. On the ground is a place nobody will want to be against this build, unless they are brave.
- Early Fight Pressure: Out The Gates allows players to implement a body-striking and stamina-draining game from the jump.
- Takedown Offense: This build provides solid takedowns, which are important for implementing submissions.
Weaknesses
- Lacks specialization: This build is not as good at wrestling or striking as those who specialized.
- Range: Lacking a kicking game means range is more difficult for this build.
- Evolution Point Hungry: This build requires a lot of points, possibly the most.
This setup is advanced and may not be suitable for beginners. To make the most of it, learn complex controls (legacy). Alternatively, focus on kick power instead of relying heavily on takedowns/punches, using knee strikes to drain stamina. If you’re not a heavy clinch grappler, consider switching out clinch striking for other skills. Continue investing in submissions, takedowns, health, punches, ground game, and both takedown and submission defense, and possibly kicks as well.
3. Kickboxing
Dynamic Ranged Fighting – Rafael dos Anjos Posture
Perks | Description |
Crazy Legs | Roundhouse and switch kicks are faster and more accurate. |
Marathoner | Actions consume less stamina while moving. |
Laser Focus | Straight, superman, and spinning punches are faster and more accurate. |
Fast Hands | Hooks, uppercuts, and overhands are faster and more accurate. |
Out The Gates | Strikes consume less stamina during rounds 1 and 2. |
Kickboxing is often considered the most vibrant form of martial arts due to its dynamic nature. Similar to traditional boxing, it has a relatively easy entry point but offers significant room for advanced mastery. In kickboxing, practitioners skillfully combine strong punches with an extensive range of kicks, including leg, body, teep, and head strikes, which can be devastating for opponents trying to get too close. Skills such as “Out The Gate,” “Fast Hands,” “Marathoner,” “Crazy Legs,” and “Laser Focus” make it easier to land punch-kick combinations and conserve energy. These enhanced punches help set up kicks, while the saved energy can be utilized for pressure, evasion, and pivots. However, unlike boxing, kickboxing requires a greater investment in all aspects of stand-up combat, as neglecting any area will significantly limit a player’s abilities.
Strengths
- Versatile Striking: The most striking variety of any playstyle, enabling devastating and fluid punch-kick combos.
- Distance Management: Unsurprisingly, having a variety of kicks means there are tools to dictate the pace and punish pressure-heavy styles.
- Early Fight Advantage: Early rounds are favorable, due to the Perk Out The Gates, as the fighter consumes less stamina.
- Stamina Management: The perks Marathoner and Out The Gates give the fighter excellent stamina.
Weaknesses
- Evolution Point Hungry: This build requires more evolution points than plain boxing, but not as many as wrestling or submission builds.
- Poor Takedown and Submission Defense: A good wrestler can outwrestle a kickboxer, and others can catch the kicks and attempt a trip for the takedown, and they are susceptible to being submitted.
- No Takedown/Ground Offense: Players may get surprise takedowns. However, they will have poor takedowns, throws, transitions, ground and pound, and submissions.
- The Pocket: Players will be at a disadvantage to boxers in the pocket, as they have faster and stronger strikes.
This game setup is designed for beginners, providing a range of adaptable strikes in the form of punches and kicks. Characters can specialize in being a counter-attacker, benefiting from abilities like ‘Untouchable’. It’s advisable to keep focusing on enhancing your character’s kicks, punches, agility, footwork, health, ground game, submission defense, and takedown resistance. Steer clear of squandering points on fancy kicks. Instead, give preference to the flying knee, front body kicks, side kicks, and axe kick, as they are effective and secure, unless overused. Focus on boosting your character’s kicks, punches, agility, footwork, and head movement, while investing points in takedown and submission defense, ground game, and health.
Players who struggle with wrestlers or want added takedown defense can use To Your Feet.
2. Wrestling
Takedowns – Khabib Posture
Perks | Description |
Work Horse | Use less stamina when grappling on the ground. |
Slam Boost | Power takedowns do more damage. |
Like Glue | Initiates, advances, and counters more easily when grappling on the feet. |
Wrestle Clinic | Boosts a fighter’s Grapple Defense whenever they are in a top general position. |
Grinder | Use less stamina when grappling on the feet. |
In this revised version, I’ve aimed to maintain the original meaning while making it more readable and engaging:
“Send all players off for a stretch of 2-3 years in Dagestan, and don’t expect them to return! Modern wrestling is more captivating than ever before, with an array of techniques to take down opponents. From collar ties to tripping, judo throws, reversals, or simply shooting open, the options are endless. The skills Work Horse, Slam Boost, Like Glue, Grinder, and Wrestle Clinic amplify a player’s wrestling prowess, both on their feet and on the ground. Once an opponent is down, these abilities make the player overwhelmingly dominant, exposing weak takedown defense, leaving opponents to merely watch as they are relentlessly slammed onto the canvas for five-minute rounds. This build is incredibly demanding when it comes to earning evolution points. However, players can choose to disregard kicks and submissions as a means of mitigating this somewhat.
Strengths
- Well-rounded: This build provides a decent striking game. This is important for masking the takedown and being a threat on the feet.
- Takedown Defense: The takedown defense is three stars, like the rest. However, their ground game gives them the advantage as soon as the fight hits the mat.
- Clinch Game: This build provides players with a good clinch game, from which takedowns or strikes can be initiated.
- Takedown offense: The best out of all 4 builds, their takedown variety, and top game make them nasty on the ground.
Weaknesses
- Stand-up: This build is competent on the feet and can win, but it is not as good as specialized strikers, like boxing or kickboxing players.
- Range: Being at range leaves fighters susceptible to kicks and makes the takedowns more obvious.
- Submissions: Having a poor submission game means players are only capable of striking on the ground against most opponents and are vulnerable to BJJ experts.
- Evolution Point Hungry: This build requires a ton of evolution points.
For a more intermediate experience, this setup is suitable for wrestling enthusiasts who wish to improve their skills. Keep in mind that mastering the techniques will require practice. If you prefer to focus on submissions, be aware that it could limit your mobility on your feet. Therefore, use evolution points sparingly. It’s recommended to consistently develop and prioritize your takedown offense, stand-up, top game, ground striking, clinch work, bottom game, health, defense against takedowns, and submissions.
1. Stand-Up (Boxing)
Stand & Bang – Nate Diaz Posture
Perks | Description |
Bulldog | Blocks more effectively when standing still or moving forward. |
Fast Hands | Hooks, uppercuts, and overhands are faster and more accurate. |
Out The Gate | Strikes consume less stamina during rounds 1 and 2. |
Laser Focus | Straight, superman, and spinning punches are faster and more accurate. |
Untouchable | Sways while moving backwards or sideways evade more effectively. |
It’s generally agreed that this gameplay method is both enjoyable and accessible for beginners. This character build focuses on developing stand-up abilities and health, with a small allocation towards grappling’s “bottom game” for escape maneuvers. Avoid investing in the kicking game unless you specifically want calf kicks, as it will only hinder your kickboxing skills. Instead, concentrate on the base kicks, which already pack a powerful punch. The key strategy at lower levels is to maximize strengths and minimize distractions. The perks align with this approach: Bulldog, Fast Hands, Out The Gate, Laser Focus, and Untouchable improve strike power, cardio, blocking, and evasion, aiming for an early knockout.
Strengths
- Stand-up: Powerful punches and elbows. Alongside good movement, slipping, and stance switching for dominance in striking.
- Health: High durability, fast recovery, and good cardio to survive an action-packed fight. Cut resistance reduces the chance of a doctor’s stoppage.
- The Pocket: Boxers will be better than any other style in the pocket, due to their fast and powerful striking.
- Low Investment: The most cost-efficient out of all four builds.
Weaknesses
- Range: Lackluster kicks mean players have to get on the inside and cannot just pick at range against kickboxers.
- Poor Takedown and Submission Defense: Good wrestlers can outwork a boxer on the ground, and a BJJ practitioner can submit them.
- No Takedown/Ground Offense: Strikers may get takedowns through panic wrestling. However, they will have poor takedowns, throws, transitions, ground and pound, and submissions.
As a gamer, I’d say this build is perfect for beginners yet remains exciting and effective at higher levels. In the current meta, fights mostly stay standing unless things get intense with some wrestling. So, keep pouring points into your punches, accuracy, health, footwork, head movement, takedown defense, submission defense, and ground game as required. Steer clear of wasting points on fancy moves like “cage Superman punches” or “spinning elbows.” Instead, focus on the practical “Superman jab” or “Superman punch,” and don’t forget about the “lead overhand” – they’re great for closing gaps!
In order to boost punch strength, it’s essential to have the Predator perk. Players can opt for the Superman punch or jab to bridge gaps quickly and retaliate against kicks effectively!
