Unity Cuts Entire Behavior Development Team As Part Of New Layoffs

It appears that there have been job reductions at Unity, as indicated by a post on their forums by Shanee Nishry. This reduction includes the team responsible for Unity Behavior and additional personnel.

In her recent post, Nishry indicates that she, along with everyone else, was let go during the most recent round of job cuts, leaving her without any further assistance or support immediately.

Nishry expressed gratitude for your affection and encouragement towards our venture, but sadly, we received news today that our squad has been affected by the recent wave of downsizing. Regrettably, we won’t be able to continue assisting you anymore.

I’ve proposed the idea of making the project open source to our leaders, but it’s not certain that they will agree.

As a dedicated Unity enthusiast who’s been part of this amazing community for five years now, I can’t help but express my longing that the Behavior tool could have reached its full potential. For those not in the know, Behavior was an innovative work-in-progress tool designed to create and manage behaviors controlling non-player characters (NPCs) or objects.

It appears that layoffs are affecting various teams throughout the company, and this has been confirmed by a senior software developer named Coline Turquin, who states she was part of the recent job cuts. Additionally, other employees have shared on social media platforms that they too have lost their positions with the company.

As of writing, Unity has yet to make an official statement on the layoffs.

2024 saw approximately 1,800 individuals being let go by Unity, incurring an estimated cost of about $205 million.
