Valorant Open Beta Expands to Everyone on PS5 and Xbox Series X

Highlights

  • Riot Games has officially expanded the console beta for Valorant, with all players on PS5 and Xbox Series X now able to play the game.
  • The console version of Valorant features several gameplay changes to smooth out its mechanics for controller, as well as cross-progression with the PC version.
  • Cross-play for Valorant’s console versions is still limited to other consoles, with PS5 and Xbox Series X players unable to match up against PC users.

As a long-time fan of competitive gaming and tactical shooters, I couldn’t be more excited about Riot Games expanding the console beta for Valorant to all PS5 and Xbox Series X players. Having followed the game since its inception and witnessing its meteoric rise in popularity on PC, I can only imagine how many gamers have been eagerly awaiting this moment.

The testing phase for console editions of the acclaimed Riot Games shooter, Valorant, has been broadened. As of now, PS5 and Xbox Series X users can participate. Launched in mid-2020 following extensive development, Valorant rapidly gained recognition in the competitive gaming sphere upon release. The game boasts a diverse roster of heroes and mechanics reminiscent of tactical shooters like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. In fact, it was named “Best Esports Game” at the 2022 Game Awards. With this expansion, more players can experience the Riot Games shooter firsthand.

Approximately four years have passed since the PC release of Valorant, but console gamers have recently been given encouraging news about its console version. At this summer’s Game Fest, Riot Games announced that a beta test for the console adaptation of Valorant would start on June 14. However, cross-play with the PC version is currently not available during the beta phase. Instead, players can enjoy cross-progression. Now, all console users can download and play Valorant on their PlayStation or Xbox devices.

I’m thrilled to share that as a Valorant fan, I can now rejoice in the news that the hero shooter has made the leap to open beta on PS5 and Xbox Series X, according to ComicBook. This means that console players can jump in for free without any entry codes, just like the PC version. The cross-progression remains intact as well. However, Riot Games has announced that the console and PC versions will not support cross-play, with “competitive integrity” being their primary reason for keeping them separate.

Valorant Expands PS5, Xbox Series X Beta Test to All Players

The console release of Valorant, including versions for PS5 and Xbox, brings adjustments compared to its PC counterpart to enhance gameplay experience. The “Focus” mechanism functions similarly to the “Hip Fire” on PC, allowing players to take aim for more accurate shots. Riot Games has also revealed that certain Agents’ abilities have been tailored for controller usage instead of keyboard and mouse. Lastly, the PS5 version of Valorant will not incorporate the DualSense controller’s Gyro aiming feature.

As a dedicated gamer who has been following the exciting world of Valorant since its PC release, I am absolutely thrilled about the recent announcement of its open beta launch on consoles! Up until now, I’ve only had the pleasure of experiencing this tactical shooter masterpiece on my computer. The console version opening up to players is a game-changer for me and many others in the community.
